Is San Diego a haven for Homeless?
WOW, all this "bickering". CreO, I know there are some people on the street in similar circumstances. The big influx started about 6 months ago & continues to grow. I wish you luck in your education and future employment endeavors. Burwell, you get the bus and take charge of the problem. The City would appreciate it because they have no money AND they have ignored the problem for so many years. I have talked to quite a few of the homeless. Just from my proximity, it is easy to see the how drugs & alcohol (just a legal drug) have their way with the human body. These people will not go to Father Joe's because "there are too many rules". So, you take them, get them off the streets, force withdrawal (you do have medical training, right?), put them to work. What a legacy for you. I am sure we would miss your rantings, but you would be far too busy running your factories and making sure there were no slackers. I happen to disagree with your statement about being "dumb as dirt" I am pretty sure that would not apply to me, although I am hoping you can provide some sort of measurement for the lack of intelligence in dirt. Oh, Burwell, forgot to ask about the $2200 in disability benefits. Where did you get that info.? For SSDI, that is a large amount. And, there is an offset for other sources of income. In otherwords, one cannot collect SSDI (federal) & SDI (CA), there is a limit. So, when will you be picking up your "gang" of homeless? Where will your "compound" be? Once you get your factories going, let us know. I would be happy to make a small purchase to help the cause. To all: Thanks for reading & I appreciate your comments.— November 4, 2009 9:07 a.m.
As the economy turns
There are plenty others out there like you, PistolPete! I am one of them and I have no plans to leave. I did make it to the Alzheimer's fund raiser on Saturday!! Thanks for reading— October 25, 2009 10:06 p.m.
Longer hours for parking meters??
PistolPete, I gave up my car about 8 years ago. I discovered that walking, taking the bus and/or trolley saved me a heck of a lot of money. It is very hard to get Californians to give up their cars! Thanks for reading Ponzi, your points are valid. One issue I disagree with is wider use of pedi-cabs. I happen to live in a pedi-cab area & I have come to dislike them. I had hoped to see them banned!! The boomboxes, the horns, the "races", even their pricing & especially poor driving, are problems for me! If the parking meter plan goes the way of the Mayor's plan, I think it will end up as a losing proposition with a ripple effect on downtown businesses. Thanks for reading— October 9, 2009 12:03 p.m.

Our City Has Problems
Fish, you are right about the homeless. The population is the most I have seen in over 20 years. City Hall is no help at all. They have been looking to the future & promising a "plan" so long that it has become part of their job!!!! As to the noise. I have lived downtown since 1998 and did not have any complaints until the past few years. The Ivy Hotel rooftop music is on a direct line to my apartment & it is VERY loud. The clubs have a responsibility, too. You know, good neighbors? Trying to attract people to live downtown (all those empty condos) will not be easy if they can't sleep. It's my opinion & my location by choice. Thanks for reading.— September 19, 2009 1:14 p.m.
American Express Put Her $1 Million into Madoff; She Sues
Amex should be held accountagle for their failure to properly assess this particular investment vehicle. SIPC certainly owes nothing and could not possibly pay off Madoff victims. This is one story out of millions of others who have lost their life savings. The largely unregulated "banking" (all encompassing to include money lenders, investment firms etc.) industry is continuing the assault on Americans (Foreign, too??) by raising rates (nothing to stop them) without notice (nothing to stop them) on credit cards. These practices could leave some people with credit card debt for many years beyond what they were planning. Inexcusable practices led to this mess. Amex should settle and move on with tighter controls and better due diligence. Credit card holders are the latest victims in an industry of greed.— July 12, 2009 5:42 p.m.
Bruce Henderson: no room for a Chargers stadium downtown
I have written several blogs on the issue of disbanding CCDC, SEDC, CCAC,etc. for at least the past decade, out fine city has been decimated by the likes of Doug Manchester, McMillan, BOSA, Michael Kelly, JOHN MOORES. Mr. Moores somehow managed to wheel & deal unnoticed because focus on him was with the Padres as his background. He really expanded his personal fortune and now he & his wife are divvying up the real estate & much more in their divorce. Downtown is rife with building after building of empty condos. The condos carry a hefty price tag (still) and the HOA fees are ridiculous. City Council is unresponsive and representation is nothing but a long word. The only one I ever see walking downtown is Donna Frye. This is not a "build it and he will come" story. STOP THE MADNESS is what I have touted. Nobody listens.— July 12, 2009 5:23 p.m.
Is internet gambling a priority
Well, jmtcw, I don't know how/why you think I harbor ill feelings toward Native Americans. My only ill feelings are that I preferred the old way of: If you want to gamble, take a trip to Nevada. I am not a fan of the proliferation of local casinos. My concern about "raiding" internet cafes because of online gambling is that our current economy is forcing the cutting of police dept. jobs and the resources could be better spent. As for regulation and oversight, that is one HUGE problem with the internet. There are no regulations and there really is no way to police it. Gambling in casinos, card rooms, etc. is heavily regulated. Not the internet.— July 6, 2009 7:09 p.m.
Bicyclists abound
Okay, rickeysays You got me. I have absolutely no clue what you are saying. I just think the situation is an accident waiting to happen. It is dangerous.— July 5, 2009 3:25 p.m.
Neighborly Noises
What a nice, uplifting story. I have a major issue with neighborhood noise (downtown, 9th & F). We have the problem of a recent insurgence of homeless persons. They bring their dogs with them and we are subjected to barking. The people treat the area as their homes, so we get to listen to arguments almost every day. AND, the human waste has given this area a particularly awful odor. Summer should be fun. Then there are the "Money talks" people. The Ivy Hotel has a 6th story roof top bar. They play LOUD music on Th, F, S and anytime they have a special event. This past Tuesday, I thought Donna Summer was sitting in my living room, singing LOUD & clear. I am very glad that your song was a good one and that you now have peace in your neighborhood. People in general seem to have lost any sense of neighborliness!— June 29, 2009 8:53 p.m.
