National City Planning Commission prodded to decide on making space for Alliant Int'l University
Trustee for a University that was fined for falsifying records for Pell Grants? AND WHAT PRAY TELL OF THE THE STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THAT CORRUPTION? WHERE ARE THE NOW? We have a Chamber representative and Mayor rushing to get the Alliant deal passed, disregarding the fact that Ed Brand failed to follow the rules and regulations of how things should be done in National City. What, Ed Brand, Ms. Reyonoso, and the Mayor do not believe the community of National City should be protected by following written National City law? I sure would like to see Ed Brand attempt to do the same thing up north in his gated community. No way would the Mayor of Escondido or a member of that Chamber allow such tactics. Surely the residents of National City deserve better representation Please take the time to consider the cost difference between taking the classes at Southwestern vs. Alliant. Why saddle these young men and women of this community to be saddled with major debt? Yes why? What is in it for those who are hell bent on pushing this thru. Perhaps Ms. Reyonoso and the Mayor should explain why this is so important - ALLIANT IS GETTING FREE RENT! AND THE STUDENTS ARE ENCUMBERING THEMSELVES IN MAJOR DEBT. SO WHY????????— August 16, 2013 10:30 a.m.
Alliant University leaves Sweetwater school district property in National City…sets up at Southwestern College?
Dianner - I would hope that you have taken the time to research the issues. When respected local politicians find issue with Sweetwater, when 4 of 5 board members are under indictment along with an ex superintendent and an ex board member, when east side schools are bursting at the seams due to boundaries being removed, when fire alarm upgrades have been delayed for so long that DSA is ready to close the books on the initial paperwork (2009!, when IPADS are purchased that can not display a split screen which is needed, when our tax dollars are used to purchase property that is then turned over to an LLC and we are upside down to the tune of 20 million dollars, when our superintendent resigns and our board fails to notify the community - HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!!! Ignorance is NOT bliss when you are speaking of students education and our tax dollars. If you choose to come to this board and voice your opinion, be professional enough to have at least spent the time studying up on the issue. If you are concerned about a friends feelings - buy them some candy.— August 13, 2013 6:48 p.m.

shirleyberan TRUE vets rarely speak of their service and NEVER, EVER use it for personal fanfare or political gain. Unfortunately for McCann this latest stunt of being filmed while leaving the hospital has lost him the support of the few who still believed in him. He is. Ow unfortunately the butt of many jokes for his constant need of media coverage. It is my understanding that the station took a lot of heat about this. If McCann believes that Brand is his friend I am of the opinion he is sadly mistaken. No doubt Brand and his comrades feel McCann is an ace in the hole giving little regard to how it reflects on McCann. New proposed schools, promised campaign donations - those funds will be non existent once the trial is over, the penalties are handed out and Siri is programmed to take Brand home to his alleged gated community. Think about it -McCann will undoubtedly find himself reflecting on the words he spoke in many living rooms 'promising to bring an end to corruption, promising not to take contractors donations' he will ponder the question WHY DIDN'T I KEEP THOSE PROMISES? Yes, we/he would be dealing with quite different reality if only he would have kept his promises.— August 13, 2013 3:50 p.m.

Out of respect for the 'reported' grave condition Mr. McCann was reported to be in I along with many in the South Bay publicly sent well wishes and silent prayers for his recovery. Alas, I am confused. For over a week we were hearing he was in need of special treatment and that the healing process could take up to a year. His memory had been affected in a head injury. Last week we heard he had left the hospital and was in a special facility. Then today we are bombarded with news coverage of McCann leaving the 'hospital'. I believe the photo coverage provided, in pictures, shows the facts. I had not seen the coverage until a neighbor questioned 'what is the real skinny on Mc Cann'? I advised him he is in a special care facility from what was reported last week. REALLY?, WELL ANNIE YOU HAVE OBVIOUSLY NOT SEEN HIS NEW PHOTO SHOOT - he asked me to come over while he replayed the story. I believe the video of McCann walking out, on his own, shaking hands with hospital personnel SAYS IT ALL. But perhaps those folks were from the billing dept. reaching for a paid in full check and we just thought they were looking to shake his hand. Hopefully the rest has allowed Mr. McCann the opportunity to come to the realization that Brand has done little to restore SUHSD's reputation or McCann's - it was after all Brand who threw McCann under the bus by testifying about McCann asking Brand to go to a contractor and ask for money for McCann. McCann left the hospital today and walked right into the hornets nest of the Alliant deal, as it was McCann who attended the agreement signing along with the Mayor of National City. Is there any hope that McCann will choose to do the right thing - lead the effort to remove Brand? That would be a saving grace.— August 12, 2013 11:25 p.m.
What am I doing in Eastlake?
sdsu4life - not to take anything away from the fine young athletes in North Park but ARE YOU WATCHING THE '''''EASTLAKE LITTLE LEAGUE TEAM'''''???????????! yes, the melting pot called Eastlake does know a thing about Little League!!!!— August 12, 2013 10:51 a.m.

erupting hmmm, very good point. Quite possible none of the board members really knew the 'details' of the Alliant deal. Perhaps Brand did a switch out - you know took the masterpiece he had painted in his mind and replaced it with a 'paint by numbers original by Brand'. If I were McCann I would be a bit torked - I would begin to question Brands true intentions. Who would have thought Brand would attempt to drive this 'deal' they without the proper legal steps i.e. Planning Commission approval. And which political figures were there smiling for the camera at the signing? And again, it was Brand who identified McCann to the Grand Jury as a board member who came to him (Brand) and asked him to go to Jaime Ortiz (management company of our Prop O funds) to obtain campaign contributions.— August 12, 2013 10:42 a.m.

eastlaker - it is clearly apparent that the community has had it with the lack of management at SUHSD. There is no effort being out in by Ed Brand into focusing on the ills of our district, alas, he is far toooo busy out there at Chambers of Commerce pedaling his pet projects. MELLO ROOS monies borrowed - are they paying back on Monday and then borrowing more on Tuesday? Funds for Education - scandal Open boundaries - total chaos IPADS - continuing problems 2012 elections - alleged involvement Secret resignation - holding out for signed contract - but don't tell the taxpayers Breaking away from CIF - failure BOC candidate selection involvement - hmmm thought he was going to stay out of it L STREET fiasco - still waiting to see that presentation on the millions lost Proposed property purchase for new District office - taxpayers blew that one up Alliant University deal - Brands idea signed by McCann WITHOUT proper permits Grand Canyon University - failed deal, guess he forgot about church and state. Campaign contribution limits - changed the bylaws to get that monkey off his back There are more but the point is BOARD MEMBERS: Have I done a good enough job in reminding you of how poor a job he has done? So,,,, next week instead of evaluating his performance FIRE HIM!— August 12, 2013 9 a.m.

Employees with integrity - Thank You to the person who came forward with the frightening information regarding 'fire alarm' issues. Thank You WTFeD for the troubling ELL information shared today. Thank You to all who have shared first hand information regarding Alliant. THANK YOU but BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!— August 11, 2013 7:51 p.m.

dbdriver - I agree a bit curious. Many are speculating that McCann believed it would bode well for his rumored bid for new political office in Chula. Picture of him signing agreement for 4 year university. Question is, do a few offices and fewer classrooms in an Adult Ed building in National City paint a true picture of a 4 year university for our community? Especially when, from the very beginning, Ed Brand and certain members of the board 'danced' around the lack of transparency allegations. Mr. McCann sat on Chulas city council, surely he is more than educated on the fact that such issues as permits MUST go before the National City Planning commission prior to the deal being signed. Why wasn't board president Cartmill or vp Ricasa in attendance for the signing? I guess in retrospect it is good for them that they were not. And now, what about these classes being offered to 11th and 12th graders? Funny, NO MENTION of that on the SUHSD/Alliant 'dance card'. No mention of that at board meetings - WHY???????????? Mr. Cartmill the community is looking to you, as president of the board, to answer to these concerns. Administrators and staff contacting students and parents regarding Alliant on our dime, WHY?????? Perhaps if Brand allowed District staff to do what our tax dollars LEGALLY allow them to do we would not be reading comments regarding the ACLU allegedly looking into our ELL students being denied what they rightfully deserve.— August 11, 2013 7:44 p.m.

Since the ELL are not being educated then where are all of the monies going that the District is receiving? Where does the board stand on all of this? I am told that it was Mr. McCann who signed the agreement between Alliant U and Sweetwater, why? I guess it would be easy for Brand to point to McCann once again. It was, after all, Brand who, when giving his statement to the Grand Jury eluded to McCann coming to Brand and asking Brand to go to Jaime Ortiz to request campaign donations. Please note, good news regarding Mr. McCann - it appears the information we were receiving regarding a severe injury were in error. Mr. Cartmill told the Star News he expects McCann back on board duty in September. Hope the other gentleman involved is doing well also.— August 11, 2013 6:49 p.m.
