Sweetwater trustees to vote on property sale
Thoughts for a speedy recovery go out to Mr. Cartmill. Even with Mr. Cartmill gone there is a quorum. There is OTHER important business that needs to be addressed so WHY the postponement? I mean the REAL reason. Teachers on vacation? Hmmmmmmmm Bad press shining the spotlight on the dysfunction of Ed Brand and Cartmill? Perhaps Mr. McCann will step up and lead. Hopefully Quinones and Lopez will show tonight to answer the tough questions— March 17, 2014 2:14 p.m.

Sweetwater trustees to vote on property sale
With the District in the midst of: Upcoming alleged corruption trials of board members A teachers strike IRS audit of L street The Boards neglect in evaluating Ed Brand An internal investigation of Castle Park Middles principal, who has resigned Borrowing of Mello monies every month Deficit spending and current $4million deficit WOULD YOU WANT TO FACE THE PUBLIC???? We, the parents and taxpayers deserve far better representation - but more importantly our CHILDREN deserve far better - we are their only voice. Please plan on attending the next Board meeting and speaking up for quality education. Why aren't the monies from the property sales being used for Deferred Maintenace - many of our schools are in dire need of repairs. Why are our students expected to suffer in poor conditions of campuses while Ed Brand, with the blessing of Jim Cartmill, John McCann and perhaps another are planning to spend money for a new District office on the east side? When are Jim Cartmill and John McCann going to start voting on the side of quality education on quality campuses. We voted for Prop BB! we voted for Prop O and what did it get us - alleged corruption. Are you aware the District is planning to propose yet another new tax for our broke down campuses? And what will that bring more fancy dinners? More school board members daughters beauty pageants paid for? Enough is enough, One last point - CARTMILL IS SICK AND???????? Even with him gone there will be a quorum - Ed Brand needs Cartmill vote, that is why - plain and simple.— March 17, 2014 12:20 p.m.
Sweetwater district teachers vote on strike
I am hearing from PARENTS that they are intending to keep their students home if the teachers strike. No money coming into the District 'too bad' they say. 'It is not like Mr. Brand, Mr. Cartmill or McCann care about the students or taxpayers anyway'! The parents see this as their opportunity to take control and send a stern message - YOU HAVE FAILED - our students, our teachers and the taxpayers - we are in control now!!!!!!!!!— March 14, 2014 8:01 p.m.
Chula Vista candidates declare intent to run June 3
bbq - oskidoll The one fact that seems to be lost in Ricasa's plead is this - I believe in her statement she stated she her vote had been influenced. She did not stand there and simply plead guilty to a misdemeanor - She had to admit to 'almost' exactly what she did, even if it was plead down to a misdemeanor. Bottom line folks, we need change - lets start with these elections - remove Brand - terminate some of Brand's cronies and start fresh. This time we simply MUST continue to monitor all that goes on - no longer should we vote them in and walk away - look what that has gotten us in the past up to now. Brand's evaluation is on the agenda for this months (Monday night meeting) and so is the property - however the property is on the CLOSED SESSION agenda - why???? Our money yet they are talking about spending it behind closed doors????????— March 13, 2014 8:56 p.m.

Elections, time to bring in the new and say goodbye to the old. Many who consistently comment have made reference to the importance of the November elections myself included. However, what will the elections bring, more of the same? Yet another group who values Party lines more than community needs? A couple of weeks ago I had a conversation with a friend. This friend and I were disagreeing on Ms. Salas's epiphany to merge school districts. My comment - "here we go, upcoming elections and all of a sudden a call to address the total dysfunction of Sweetwater". Friends response - "this is good news, at least someone is finally speaking up". Let us focus on the word 'FINALLY' - and so I ask "where has she and all of her fellow politicians been for the past many years (at least 5 by my count) while the community has been begging for help, have been fighting the battle as a grass roots effort? How many millions have been wasted or possibly misspent at the hands of the elected officials and superintendent of Sweetwater? And so to ALL candidates running I say the following "We are tired of elected officials who are content to draw the paycheck for work they are hesitant to do. We expect elect officials to represent the people NOT THE party. I can agree to disagree with a politician that I respect, I realize each issue brings many points and counterpoints. What I am asking is that politicians begin DOING SOMETHING, ANYTHING more than showing up at football games and flipping coins or speaking at luncheons. You personally research the important community issues, you personally meet and speak with those you represent. Take a risk and speak up - DO WHAT YOU WERE ELECTED TO DO - DO YOUR JOB,,,,, Help return our community to the once respected community we heralded.— March 11, 2014 10:57 a.m.

VigilantinCV - in my humble opinion Rindone did NOTHING as a member of the County B of Ed. I recall contacting him on two separate occasions regarding 'the Gandara' - he advised his sec'y would be contacting me - 4 years later and no call back. Why do we continue to recycle these politicians? It is almost as if they are playing musical chairs - sat in this seat, did nothing - time to move and do nothing in another seat. I mean really - for Mayor - this is the best of the best? I would hate to see the worst of the worst. Oh that is right I addressed the worst of the worst in the first paragraph of my first post above.— March 10, 2014 8:09 p.m.

City attorney Goldsmith fights to keep his emails private
Mr. Goldsmith - perhaps you have lost sight of the obvious 'we pay your salary'. You want privacy - email personal business on a personal email account. If your conversations relate to City business on ANY email account - we have the right to see it.— March 10, 2014 6:50 p.m.

Regarding Council Seat 1 - well,,,,,, one person I will NOT encourage family and friends residing in Chula Vista to vote for is John McCann!!!!!!! While it would be an easy form of ridding our school district of this do NOTHING Board Member - I love the city of Chula Vista far too much to plague them with such a politician. This month Ed Brand will be adding $400k to the Sweetwater District defense budget - that amount added to the already approved $600k and what we have folks is a District OUT OF CONTROL - John McCann, as a current Board member, is spending our District into insolvency. Rindone as Mayor - you are joking, right? Just my opinion!!!!— March 10, 2014 6:41 p.m.
