The piper must be paid
Eastlaker - we all join in your frustration. However, there are positives - one by one they are standing before Judge Espana, and one by one their deeds are exposed and ADMITTED TO - hey they used their mouths, their tongues, their lips when they plead guilty and exposed THEMSELVES! The charges proven!!!!! While some may curse the efforts of those who have worked for the past 5 years to bring integrity back into the District, the students and taxpayers will benefit - so, curse away!!!! You did the crime now do the time!!! Once 'the gandara' meets up close and personal with Judge Espana, then they can all meet up on email and whine to each other. The community on the other hand will be celebrating. Ed Brand is going as is John McCann. They will leave, but, our power of the vote remains. Hopefully we have learned our lessons - and will no longer vote ANYONE into office that is not worthy. When someone shows you who they are - BELIEVE THEM!!!!!!! Goodbye to this Group - while a better person might wish them well I am not that better person for I continue to dwell on just how many students fell victim to their greed. Hopefully none will even consider running for any office again - but, if they do, their pasts will be exposed.— June 21, 2014 6:30 p.m.
Don’t trample the streetscape, Santa
Third Avenue - 'Christmas' (oops not a politically correct term)/Starlight Parade go hand in hand. Next thing you know they will be moving it to Olympic Parkway - for some strange reason 'old' Chula Vista has become a bad word (make that 3 bad words). I have fond memories of this communities families celebrating the season and their community as they gathered on both sides of Third Avenue - clapping for the students who proudly marched with their school colors. Brownie /Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts with smiles from ear to ear as they walked and looked for the loving faces of family members. Ah but that was before landscapes took priority over the taxpaying community.— June 20, 2014 5:54 p.m.
Homeless and at home in Hillcrest
Anne, it is nice to know that there are those who still find it their hearts to lend kindness to others without regards to the 'dirt under their fingernails'. As I I read your story I was reminded of the mantra 'there but by the grace of God go me'.— June 14, 2014 7:37 a.m.
Scandal-raising questions at U-T San Diego
AMERICAS FINEST CITY WITH THE WORST PAPER Monaghan - you are correct there are some great reporters on the payroll, I just hope they can hang in until a real 'get your paper man' purchases it.— June 12, 2014 6:51 p.m.
It’s worth dipping into
What a great story - thanks for reminding me about this hidden gem!— June 12, 2014 6:49 p.m.
Inside the buzz on Kashkari and Faulconer
Bludgeoning a toy train - nothing but a gimmick. Talk to me Jerry Brown - talk to me Neel Kashkari - share EXACTLY how you will make this State, this Country, my life - better.— June 12, 2014 6:45 p.m.
Who killed this boy?
There are no words that properly convey the sadness I feel for Mrs. Leitzke and her family. The love a mother has for her children can not be duplicated - as I have said to my Grandson since the day he was born - 'to infinity and back, that is how much I love you'. As so it is with Ryan's mother, even with his passing - she continues to love. Eastlaker calls for action, hopefully the authorities are reading ----- Thoughts and prayers for a family who continues to love the most precious gift of "Ryan Leitzke"— June 12, 2014 6:35 p.m.
New Sweetwater boardmembers pitch in to money pit
oskidoll, Ms. Luzzaro - as always your points well taken. Allow me to digress - interest, educated on the issues and choices. Interest- there is little interest in anything outside of the majorities personal and family lives. If it does NOT directly affect the proverbial 'me' - I am not interested. Educated on the issues - few, if any take the time to read a/any newspaper, listen/watch radio or tv news shows, or attend/listen to the audio of a Board meeting. In fact, there are really few news organizations that present facts. Here in San Diego we have The READER and small papers such as The Star News or The Patch who make a valiant attempt of presenting facts and data. The largest paper in our fair area full of fluff - one sided rhetoric. I don't want fluff - I am one of those 'WHERE'S THE BEEF' KINDA OF PEOPLE. Choices - when entering my little cardboard box of a voting booth recently and I began to fill in my eggs with my black pen I found myself staring thru the ballot and wondering 'you call this a choice'? Where are the Jaime Mercado's? You have heard of persons like him 'people that are there to serve and not use'. So, maybe that is what is needed - interest, self education on this issues and choices.— June 12, 2014 7:58 a.m.
New Sweetwater boardmembers pitch in to money pit
Mello participants - I would like to bring to your attention the following - this evening, at a SPECIAL BOARD MEETING it was announced that the District has every intention on raising the Mello tax retroactive in the amount of 2% and then slapping on an additional 2% next year. Also, they intend on levying a 2% fee on Developers - and who do you think will bear the brunt of those additional Developer fees? Well, that would be the new home owner. If this is approved we can all send the following sentiments - THANK YOU JOHN MCCANN!!!!!!! Please forward on to all that you know that pay Mello, ask that they attend this months Board meeting to join all in sharing with Mr. McCann 'this is but ANOTHER' reason why you would be dangerous on the CV City Council and we will NOT be voting for you. just my opinion— June 10, 2014 11:39 p.m.
South Bay politiscape on election day
Ensenadamaria - I was at the Rancho Del Rey promotion ceremony at SleepTrain today - I too heard the decorated war hero intro line - this is new, he went from 'serving' to 'decorated war hero'. So here is my question what medal would he have received? Might he have confused his 'Service Medal' with decorated war hero? I do not believe servicemen/women are ALLOWED to claim awards UNLESS it is true. Court Martials have been in order for anyone who claims decorations of medals they did not receive. Now here is a thought - IF anniej decided to volunteer, if she then cooked and served her infamous 'chili' to the troops, she too would get a 'Service Medal'. RECOMMENDATION - BIO should simply state loving husband and father - perhaps proud graduate of the District - but as for the rest of the minutia - HEAR ME CLEARLY, IT IS A TURN OFF AND WE DON'T CARE!!!— June 4, 2014 7:59 p.m.
