Escondido Council Approves Ballpark -- with Reservations
Astutely stated.— December 16, 2010 4:28 p.m.
San Diego Outsources Billing for Helicopter Rescues
All of my heart attacks are self-inflicted. After all, those are my genes, and I clearly chose to accept them at birth. Of course, for the popular benefit of all taxpayers, I no longer go to the ER for heart attacks as long as I have aspirin, warfarin, and nitrostat left in the medicine cabinet. Seriously. What right do I have to make all of you pay for my health care when I can't even afford health insurance myself? If I sound harsh, then perhaps that's my pre-late 1960s education in personal responsibility, situational awareness, and proper prior planning to prevent poor performance? We were taught as children back then that playing jacks on the freeway was NOT a bright idea...— December 16, 2010 3:49 p.m.
$5000 for Point Loma Dog Killer
It has never ceased to amaze me that we the people cannot do anything cruel and unusual to punish, while you never hear of anybody getting sued for unconstitutional civil rights damages after doing cruel and unusual things as a criminal act against victims. Criminals have plenty of constitutional protections but not one blessed constitutional duty to do good to others, whether the victims are pets or people. Speaking from experience, federal victims rights laws are relatively toothless in this regard.— December 16, 2010 8:51 a.m.
Escondido Council Approves Ballpark -- with Reservations
Perhaps Escondido is ready for some big-city liabilities and major league back-room dealings.— December 16, 2010 8:30 a.m.
San Diego Outsources Billing for Helicopter Rescues
For the current strong mayor if the KESSLER lawsuit actually goes to trial: a little ditty from Patty Smyth and Scandal (such an appropriate band name for all of that)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_50-gOeBilc— December 16, 2010 4:50 a.m.
BP Sued By Obama Administration, With Sempra Implications?
An editorial dedication to BP executives interrupting their busy yachting schedule earlier this year to do some public relations work on this side of the pond... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_50-gOeBilc— December 16, 2010 4:41 a.m.
Taking Back California
The solar panel idea won't fly if it involves selling power to corporations. To do that, a home solar panel setup needs Qualifying Facility status from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or SDG&E won't pay... plus current state law limits people getting paid for excess power to only five percent of all residential customers in an investor owned utility's service area. Instead, solar panels are better left not connected to the grid for SDG&E to not confiscate power for free and not resell it at a profit to others. Just use what you generate in your electric vehicle, and there will be no excess... and no smog either.— December 16, 2010 1:05 a.m.
The Rage Virus
Every pit bull we've had has been a treat, but then again, we've never clipped their tails and ears because nobody at home has any interest in fighting dogs. Why mutilate a beloved family pet? On the other hand, I've lived long enough in Encantostan to know there are young ones here who are interested in raising dogs in an underground sort of way, and they don't really have an interest in "best of show"...— December 15, 2010 7:24 p.m.
San Diego schools, parks, safety suffer to pay for the Chargers
RE "San Diego’s battle is 'services versus subsidies for developers, services versus subsidies for pro sports, and services versus pension benefits,' says former city attorney Mike Aguirre": This is actually an amazingly compact summary of what really ails San Diego, and it gains support as valid when one follows the money trail from campaign contributors to the civic leaders who are politically responsible for providing necessary services to residents of the City of San Diego. We are not well served and from the look of the potholes in the streets and the ongoing overhead power line wildfire threat, have not been well served for years. For those who don't get the wildfire connection, see the City Council's 1970 electricity franchise ordinance involving SDG&E and its low 3% annual franchise fee compared to the public safety cost of being prepared for city-wide incineration in the third millennium. http://www.sandiego.gov/undergrounding/pdf/sdgefr…— December 15, 2010 10:24 a.m.
San Diego Outsources Billing for Helicopter Rescues
Like I needed another reason not to go to the ER for my next heart attack. I survived the one earlier this August on my personal stash of aspirin and nitrostat. What doesn't kill me only makes me stronger... and stranger. Out of the hundred or so emergency air transports per year, how many were needed for self-inflicted stupidities where the alleged victims were at least partially liable for negligent behavior causing physical injury? Any freeway racers in the group? Anybody ghost-riding the whip and falling off the hood? How about skateboarders without helmets? Bare-knuckled street fighters? Johnny Knoxville impersonators with time on their hands? Motor vehicle operators with a death wish while near a lowered trolley crossing gate, something that seems to be a local coveted claim to fame here between Lemon Grove and Santee?— December 15, 2010 9:54 a.m.
