Sanders's "Frighten 'Em" Prop. D Scam
Think about it. All of the media HAS to get on board... the San Diego news market is so competitive that they even made a movie about it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0357413/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anchorman:_The_Legen…— October 21, 2010 12:57 p.m.

This appears to be an unfortunate consequence of us being considered by CalTrans planners to be just another suburb of Los Angeles. On the other hand, with so many people bad-mouthing California high-speed passenger rail connections as a complete waste of money, it seems that real estate-hungry near-coastal freeway expansions are inevitable. Sad but most likely true.— October 21, 2010 12:21 p.m.
Sanders's "Frighten 'Em" Prop. D Scam
RE "Yes, if Channel 10 can get it [copy of Sanders first KESSLER deposition], other media can, too. Will they? Doubtful. The mainstream media in San Diego are lapdogs." The funny things about political lapdogs is that when they decide to jump off and leave, they sometimes leave something very private very exposed to the public. At a certain point, the scandal in all of this lends itself to every local media outlet covering this or facing the prospect of being scooped by you on a regular basis. With your mention of at least one local media outlet going under recently, lagging in the juiciest fact-stranger-than-fiction story in town is not good for business for any news outlet, especially if owners' plans include a later sale to another media industry investor group in the long run.— October 21, 2010 10:47 a.m.
Did Mayor's Blessing Give Away the Proposed Sales Tax Increase Revenue to CCDC?
Based on comments made on Don Bauder's "Sanders's 'Frighten 'Em' Prop. D Scam", I am adjusting the FANTASY RECALL count to 5-0 in favor of recalling hiz honor. Seems that being a no-show at his own budget-talk community forums is a political negative.— October 21, 2010 9:46 a.m.
F is for Funding: F Street Owner Alma Vasic Comes Through for Toni Atkins
RE "Why is this news?": Maybe because there's an election coming? After all, IF George Stevens could lose an election over campaign contributions from Las Vegas interests in that artistic helper Cheetahs, "the #1 Gentlemens Club in San Diego", (well BEFORE two other San Diego City Councilmen were found guilty in federal court about the way they were receiving campaign contributions from the Las Vegas interests in Cheetahs) AND this is not news, THEN aren't we talking double-standard here? http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2004/feb/26/wh…— October 21, 2010 12:12 a.m.

There really isn't anything but petition signatures and a filing fee to prevent voters in San Diego from amending the 1970 Electricity Franchise Ordinance to say that all disputes with SDG&E get settled in binding arbitration by a panel of customers. Seriously. Franchise language already exists that all agreement terms be interpreted in favor of the people of San Diego and against the franchisee SDG&E. In fact, old terms that have been replaced by amendments once called on the California Supreme Court to handle the interpretations under that same "California constitutional franchise" language. Maybe it would help if people could, would and should walk away from any securities deal that was overly mysterious when it comes to dispute resolution, especially if those people have no say in the detailed structure of the contract. If take it or leave it, then I'm leaving, as Bauder's Rule on Fraud by Financial Complexity most likely applies.— October 20, 2010 11:46 p.m.
Sanders's "Frighten 'Em" Prop. D Scam
RE comments on two consecutive mayoral no-shows at hiz honor's community meetings: I still think our strong mayor is entrenched in the tower of power after the Court permitted Channel 10's records request in KESSLER V. CITY OF SAN DIEGO yesterday and allowed that media outlet access to hiz honor's recent deposition. Has he been seen in public since then? Logically, how is he supposed to react to being in a line-up with only one potential suspect? It's not exactly something he's got prior experience at, having always been on the other side of the searchlight before... In a mayoral context, things are in total damage control, and in his eyes, repeats of Monday night are something to be avoided at all costs. Perhaps there are ego issues on watching grand prior plans turn into some sort of fetid fecal matter. RE settlement in KESSLER matter: If Channel 10 has a copy of the deposition, then no amount of non-disclosure between named parties can stop everyone else from finding out what was said (and if video is included, how it was said under oath). After all, if Channel 10 can get it, then every media outlet that can pay for legal representation should be able to get it as well.— October 20, 2010 10:19 p.m.
Mayor Sanders Frustrates Critic at San Diego Budget Town Hall Meeting
Historically, the American general's response to December 1944 German demands of a surrender at Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge was "NUTS!" Perhaps the audience member of the community was feeling generally besieged by politicians without answers.— October 20, 2010 2:07 p.m.
Bilbray, Issa Drink Sempra’s bitter brew
An interesting story, considering how much Sempra Generation is pumping into power grid infrastructure outside California (funded at least in part by Southern California Edison Company and San Diego Gas and Electric Company utility billings). There may be a connection between the Reid campaign donation and Sempra's current construction of a rather large solar facility outside Las Vegas... From the wide distribution of contributions, Sempra seems to be covering its bets with insurance for its corporate political expression in future.— October 20, 2010 9:25 a.m.
Seismic Research Vital to Offshore Drilling
The reaction of informed students regarding "“various research vessels operated by U.S. academic institutions" could be a story all on its own.— October 20, 2010 9:14 a.m.
