Gin's Lead Indicators Inch Forward in November
Apparently it was a wise thing for the mayoral pull-back on putting a new city hall on the November 2010 ballot. In fact, I don't recall hearing anything more about the expense of that project since then. Maybe after the economy improves, but not now with indicators mixed and so soon after the defeat of Proposition D. At the same time, that big concrete-lined hole in the ground that is supposed to become our new central library downtown makes a nice-sized reservoir, with even more rain due tonight and tomorrow... How did the mayor predict that end to water rationing?— December 21, 2010 9 a.m.
What's your take on the Tea Party?
I'm not ready to buy what the movement is selling precisely because it doesn't offer me anything better than the government it wants to f***. This is the same mentality that generally blacklisted scouting out of public education but gave us no effective replacement for integrating teenagers into society, leaving us with the Bird Rock Bandits. Engineer something a whole lot better than an anarchist-handbook road to revolution, and the movement might actually gain some traction, but right now, all I see is the kind of anti-intellectual knee-jerk approach that produces no positive results on anything... unless f***ing things up worse than they already are like an early Mexican presidential succession by revolution is really the goal here.— December 21, 2010 12:44 a.m.
Trolley Pass Black Market Pops Up at Border
LOL... I ride the trolley all the time, and I am not THAT stinky. On the other hand, when I'm sitting there and scribbling in the margins of a calculus book, that could be scary...— December 20, 2010 9:04 p.m.
Ben Hueso Donor Fined
Perhaps the fine also gives the new assembly member street cred...— December 20, 2010 8:58 p.m.
Black Swan Gets a Black Spot
Old enough not to pay any attention to me on the subject of not getting tattooed; young enough to consider Natalie Portman to be rather old. One them is as thin or thinner; both were cheerleaders. I really think that if anybody saw us all hanging out together and laughing it up in public, I'd probably get shot at for looking like a real perv! Yup... it would look that bad for Mr. Gray who should get no play...— December 20, 2010 8:50 p.m.
Black Swan Gets a Black Spot
Two of my nieces gave Black Swan four thumbs up!— December 20, 2010 6:08 p.m.
Update San Diego, 12/20/2010
According to Trish Regan at CNBC, there's this incredible American market for incredible California agricultural product with applications in medicinal pain relief... and it appears that the Chinese investment community has yet to get a clue about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAbewt6ZGO0 It turns out that a significant quantity originates here in San Diego's North County. Apparently, our economy IS improving in San Diego, thanks to our nearby neighbors to the north...— December 20, 2010 5:43 p.m.
Michell Told She Can't Lobby City for a Year
I would be suspicious. The current mayoral administration does not seem to encourage many separate "branches" of independent municipal authority, and a top aide is just that: involved in everything the fearless leader is involved with. At the same time, there may be no evidence if one has been at least superficially clean and tidy in ways hiz honor has not. My question is this: Why leave after scoring that major coup in getting the Sacramento CCDC tax increment deal through? The Downtown Partnership seems like a step down from wheeling and dealing for City of San Diego in Sacramento... or maybe I just don't understand exactly what connections that private downtown security agency and garbage truck service REALLY has...— December 20, 2010 3:43 p.m.
CPUC: PG&E Smart Meters Stay Installed
!!! I've only seen pictures of circular ones! As a math minor at USD, I learned how to make my own primitive straight ones after being made to lecture on Napier's Bones and logarithmic functions in upper-division History of Mathematics... Thanx, Dr. Langton!— December 20, 2010 2:22 p.m.
Division
Ah, the trestle. In the early 1970s, we used to take advantage of an old water tank car to fill canteens after taking the harder route by crossing down and then up the sides of Carrizo Gorge, spending the night in an abandoned, unfinished train tunnel where old newspapers from the 1940s and earlier were scattered about. I have tremendous respect for jumping cacti and the damage it can cause through careless placement of hands and/or feet. My last trip was only supposed to be 15 miles or so in and out, but ended up closer to 30 due to navigational error of a few degrees, leading our backpacking party up the wrong valley forking off the gorge, after taking numerous photos of the trestle. Walking the desert gorge like that can clear your mind or cloud it forever.— December 20, 2010 2:14 p.m.
