Who Cares If La Mesa Post Office Closes?
Same thing happened with the South Park-Golden Hill post office recently. Residents got the closing date postponed but, ultimately, that location closed its doors. Major PIA to have to get on the 94 and drive all the way to Valencia Park to pick up a missed delivery. I don't understand why the postmaster gives a special bulk rate to all those grocery store mailers that clog up my mailbox, and then my recycling bin. Some days that's ALL that's in my mailbox. I hate to think the postman (er, post*person*) had to stop at my box to give me pointless mail I don't want and didn't ask for. Raise the rate on bulk mail!!!— May 12, 2011 5:01 p.m.
California Cannabis Coalition Seeks to Eliminate Ordinances
I ran into an acquaintance the other day ... This acquaintance of mine has been known to sell marijuana. I was shocked to learn that she voted NO on Prop. 19 because if it passed, it would affect her profits.— May 12, 2011 4:43 p.m.
Tequila for the masses at UCSD tomorrow
I steer clear of their regular stuff, but Cuervo's "De La Familia" tequila is actually really, really good. Price tag is right around $100.— May 9, 2011 3:09 p.m.
What's the greatest invention of your lifetime?
TiVo! Remember when you actually had to be AT HOME when a show came on that you wanted to watch? Or you had to put in a big ol' clunky VHS tape and somehow record it? TiVo is one invention that definitely changed my life. I can't barely watch live TV anymore, on account of all the commercials. I shudder to think how much of my life I wasted watching them before the advent of the Digital Video Recorder.— March 11, 2011 12:01 p.m.
Ranch Dressing
I'm from the Midwest, where people put ranch dressing on *everything.* It's especially favored as a dip for pizza.— August 6, 2010 9:51 a.m.
North Park vs South Park
I've always thought of the border between North Park and South Park as Switzer Canyon, not Juniper. Just seems a more natural dividing line.— July 21, 2010 10:14 p.m.
Black and Blue
I, too, have repaired my own containers in an effort to make them last a bit longer and avoid the replacement fee. Howev, considering that we San Diego residents don't have to pay for trash or recycling or yard waste collection, I personally won't mind too much when I finally do have to cough up the $100 replacement fee.— July 16, 2010 6:02 p.m.
Raccoon Wars
60 pounds may be exaggerating. I'm not a good judge of weight. Or age. Howev the monster was as big as my dog, who is 65 lbs. Regardless, thank you all for your comments. I think I'll keep my distance from now on and let them have their summer night romp. Or get rid of the pond. :(— July 15, 2010 2:02 p.m.
Lotus Thai
When we used to live in Hillcrest we would get delivery from Lotus Thai all the time. Now that we live in South Park, it's been awhile since we had the pleasure. Last night we did a pick-up order of all our old faves: crab-fried rice, eggplant, green curry, red curry, vegetables, and pad thai. It was even better than I remember it! If you're craving Thai food, Lotus Thai should be the first place you call on ~ you won't be disappointed!— October 13, 2008 8:14 p.m.
MAD Help Wanted
Thanks for pointing that out, nostalgic. I completely agree. The fire dept's been out here before and warned us we need to call the City of San Diego and have someone come out to take care of this. The City's been out here several times too, but they always claim not to have the funding to maintain things properly. They don't make a practice out of maintaining overgrowth or clearing dry brush. They've got an "after the fact" policy in effect -- which means the Street Division will only come out and trim if and when a tree falls and damages persons or property. Parks & Rec doesn't see it as their responsibility because it's open space. It's a vicious cycle. Everyone that comes out agrees that something should be done, but nothing has ever been done until now. Our home insurance has even been canceled before due to the fire hazards! Sorry for the tangent, but it's been a really trying experience to deal with the City. I understand that it's not MAD's objective to reduce fire hazards for canyon residents, but I really like that we are finally seeing some action in some long-neglected areas of this community, and -- to me -- that is the true objective, and reward, of MAD. If you haven't tired of the discussion, I'm genuinely curious why you would hope to see the money spent on a community center, and what potential purpose(s) it would serve.— October 1, 2008 5:04 p.m.
