City slickness for East County
Alex, you have made several disparaging remarks about East County. What did folks in El Cajon or La Mesa do to you to cause you to harbor such vitriol?— November 17, 2015 2:54 p.m.
Tourist money spigot wide open
I appreciate Briggs challenging this "Was not it always so? Why not just keep gouging and we know what best to do with the money" way of thinking that the current system hands over to the chosen few. However, I think the room tax, given to the city to distribute back to the hotel folks is stupid. I think the tourism folks should foot the bill for their own advertising and other projects. Adding a "room tax" or any other named "tax" is deceptive, Figuring other cities charge a lot, so we should, too, is not an argument at all. Briggs also proposes that proceeds from this tax on tourists and other visitors should fund city infrastructure projects. That just encourages the folks in power to continue the bait and switch that they have been doing for years.— November 17, 2015 2:53 p.m.
Middle-Easterners from the south
does anyone know why these two groups sought out Border Patrol in order to surrender?— November 17, 2015 12:23 p.m.
City slickness for East County
Maybe I don't fall in line with current positive speak, but I don't consider the Marriot Courtyard or the Hampton Inn as "luxury hotels." But maybe we are downgrading like they have done with the classification of rental cars.— November 16, 2015 3:13 p.m.
Chula Vista goes all 21st Century
Let's say what you are alleging is true. Ms. Luzzaro is not an elected official. How about we get the elected ones to be transparent? Ms. Luzzaro's employer should be dealing with her issue.— November 16, 2015 9:46 a.m.
Giant, ugly storage facility okayed
Mr. Ponzi...there is already a storage place a block away from this proposed site. There is also a storage facility just across the freeway. I guess you do not get to La Mesa too often, with your criticism. I am ot sure where all the big boxes are that you speak of...I have been thrilled by the developing nature of the Commercial Street area. The building that is part of that property is a classic example of mid-century architecture that won awards when it was built, and still looks great. YOu seem to have a rabid distaste of "big Boxes," so why does a big glob of a storage unit facility appeal to you so much? Where do you live? Can we assume you would welcome a similar jewel of a development next to your home? Yeah, I didn't think so.— November 3, 2015 6:46 a.m.
The Cashman taketh, the Cashman goeth away
Do we know the name of that "one Company" to which he was steering contracts?— October 26, 2015 3:33 p.m.
Handicap placard abusers on notice
Altho, if there was an app to report these abuses, it would make sense that the other end of the app would be able to kick back a "legally held" message. I don't have any issue with folks who need the placards getting them. I do have a problem with folks who don't need them getting them easily, and with folks who misuse them. It is our business, though...the "state" is evidently not doing a good job of vetting these things, and it is taxpayer money that is funding this.— October 19, 2015 12:54 p.m.
Shocking goings-on at Green Elementary School
sjt, good thing the membership down at Sweetwater changed, or you would have to be saying the same thing about them, eh?— October 7, 2015 6:37 a.m.
Shocking goings-on at Green Elementary School
I am sorry to differ with you, but yes, they have been successful. Sure, maybe the news gets out, but there is far too little consequence for actions. We have come to tolerate corruption and, and too many voters don't bother to really look into the folks at the Board level that THEY vote in, and will not take up the action necessary to remove Administrators who are doing more harm than good.— October 7, 2015 6:27 a.m.
