Knife-wielding attorney threatens spouse
Scandalously light, I say. In fact, the suspension should be indefinite. When/if he got his act together, he could reapply.— May 21, 2018 1:26 p.m.
Fletcher couple rumbles over spousal support
Yes, he's been full of it since he entered politics. Looking at the situation and superficial appearances, if I had to make the choice he made, I'd go with Mindy rather than "Lovely" Lorena. His flip-flopping might have been the basic reason for the failure of his marriage. We can only wonder why the Jacobs family doesn't just put him on their personal payroll, sort of like a butler, and pay him a fat salary for doing nothing. The answer is obvious: if he can't deliver politically they don't know him.— May 19, 2018 6:36 p.m.
San Diego's nine hot spots for illegal dumping
Connecshuns, man, connecshuns.— May 19, 2018 6:28 p.m.
San Diego's nine hot spots for illegal dumping
Anyone else have a problem with the "logic" of Mario Sierra? He says that if the city keeps quickly picking up the illegally-dumped trash, it will discourage others from dumping. Huh? If I knew that the city would clean up after me and that there would be no repercussions, I'd take advantage of it. City of SD bureaucrats are on a different plane of consciousness from the rest of humanity.— May 19, 2018 8:12 a.m.
County unemployment dips below 3 percent
While I know that unemployment is down and jobs are up, I'm still suspicious of these measures. After the economic crisis we went through, many able-bodied workers just dropped out of the labor force. How they manage without a job is a mystery except that we know about disability claims and working strictly for cash. How many of those who dropped out have come back very quietly? Until we can be sure of these measures they need to persist for several more months.— May 18, 2018 7:18 p.m.
Too ugly
This is the first time I ever saw a photo of one of those cars. "Too ugly" is an apt description. There were some real excesses in that era with cars, and some were laughable. I'd wonder how many Superbirds are still around; they aren't something that pleases my eye. Do others react the same as I do?— May 18, 2018 7:10 p.m.
Fletcher couple rumbles over spousal support
Since it appears as if his sinecure at Qualcomm is history, and he's essentially unemployed now, his appeal of those payments is appropriate. 8K a month of spousal and child support is a lotta dough, guys, especially if he has no income. But this sounds as if he's counting on landing that District 4 supervisorial seat, and I doubt that he should count that chicken before it's hatched. There is some real competition for the seat. I don't think being married now to Lovely Lorena is going to pull that election out of the fire. It is good to think that all that Jacobs money and support will not sway the voters. We shall soon see.— May 18, 2018 7:07 p.m.
Voice needs an editor; Chula Vista mayor needs hotelier cash
Very informative. I've long wondered about the ultra-vocal opposition to the Regents Road bridge. Just a quick look at a map of the area reveals that it was a missing link that would need to be built as the area filled up. It isn't the only such spot in the city. Decades ago, there was a plan to extend Tierrasanta Blvd to the east by building a bridge across the San Diego River in Mission Gorge. (It would have lined up with Princess View there.) We can safely assume the residents in Tierrasanta didn't want the street to become a major arterial between Mission Gorge and Kearny Mesa. Eventually, with the construction of Highway 52, the pressure to make another link between Santee and Kearny Mesa diminished. But when development is allowed and then the city or county refuses to complete infrastructure, such as the street grid, that's just wrong.— May 17, 2018 8:38 a.m.
Teen girl fights off possible kidnapper
Hmm. I wonder why this dude was hanging around in front of the library unchallenged for an hour or more. Sounds as if the security "guard" doesn't go outside at all, or if he does, fails to deal with loiterers. So, what good does it do to have security on duty if it doesn't keep the place secure? BTW, that use of the term "transient" is something that came along a few years ago when reporters and others were seeking a neutral term for what would be better called street bums, or unwashed homeless people. No wonder that she didn't know what it meant.— May 17, 2018 8:12 a.m.
Cursed Encinitas bluff
Recently, many Reader headlines and sub-headlines have had me shaking my head. Someone sets them up without reading the story, I'd guess. More care needs to be taken in the headlines, for sure. But then, I have to point out that our sole remaining local daily newspaper seems to have the same problem. Or if not the same thing, actually prints misspelled words in headlines. No editors around?— May 16, 2018 6:47 p.m.
