Fingerprints the clincher
Oh, and the def has some cool neck tats. All the better to identify him, I'm certain.— August 3, 2018 3:08 p.m.
Fingerprints the clincher
Very amusing; I doubt that step will ever be part of the procedures for dealing with stickups. When we were kids, most banks had a customer lobby that was walled off from the interior of the bank, and the teller windows had bars on them. That all was done to make the operation more secure from robbery. But then modern thinking came along, and banks opened up their buildings and didn't have tellers physically separated from the public. Hence there have been more robberies since then. In this narrative, one thing is missing. The banks and credit union branches now all seem to have a security guard, and wearing shades into the bank is a no-no. Does BBVA have security guards? The usual approach is for the guard to politely ask the patron to remove the shades, and in so doing he/she can get a good look at the customer. All that makes it unlikely that anyone in disguise will try a robbery. And when one does, the video cam gets a good image of the robber.— August 3, 2018 8:14 a.m.
Golf has to suffer six or more years
If the Coachella Valley really has that many golf courses, they ARE the economy. Besides growing dates, what else goes on there except golf?— August 2, 2018 6:47 p.m.
Panini plan has to work
OK, I'm sold on trying it out. It's on Orange Street in 'Dido. But I don't remember a street by that name near the transit center. How about the address? I'm dying to find it.— August 2, 2018 6:45 p.m.
Golf has to suffer six or more years
I'm not sure I agree with Koppenhaver's appraisal of the situation. He's supposedly taking a cold, hard look at the it, but while he's not as rosy as others, still is optimistic about a stabilization in players vs. courses. My hunch is that interest is in a secular decline, and that the broad interest in golf that existed for most or all of my life is steadily eroding. If true that will have major implications for other things, such as destination resorts that grew up and got their renown from their golf courses. In the east, think of Hilton Head and Jekyll Island. Once every couple weeks we walk the trail on the north side of Batiquitos Lagoon in Carlsbad which runs along the edge of the Aviara Resort course for a few hundred yards. This past Sunday we could see very little activity on their beautiful course at about 10:30 am. (That's just when I'd have expected to see the golfers out in force, before the temperature rises to an uncomfortable level.) Interest and participation in the game, even among the well-heeled who would be staying there. It doesn't bode well for the survival of many courses. We'll see several more shut down in the county soon.— August 2, 2018 7:27 a.m.
The city hall honesty test
It was a near-miracle that someone like him was ever hired and given a bullet-proof long-term contract. He might have been selected due to his nerdy appearance and demeanor; boy did he fool them! He's been a bulwark against the chronic waste and fraud in the do-nothing city government, and every taxpayer and resident of SD should be grateful for what he's done. The lies that he's refuted are amazing, the most recent being the water meter "problem" that was nothing like Kev-boy described. He may not want to have another ten years in that office, but if he does, he should get it with no foot-dragging. But what they need is another half-dozen watchdogs embedded throughout the bureaucracy, all as zealous as he's been. It would be a challenge for anyone to reverse decades of decadence and indifference at city hall. If the "mare" gets his way, the next city auditor will be some good looking, glib nincompoop.— August 1, 2018 8:19 a.m.
Older sister in Vista tries to help
She was most foolish to contact armed robbers who had "fired shots into the air." Dudes who would do that, if they actually did it, are not to be messed with. The appropriate step would have been to call the cops, ASAP, but they didn't. Wonder why? Then when she manages to meet up face to face, one of them "fired shots into the air" again. Does some part of this story not sound right to you? I have doubts. But it does appear that Sims is a dangerous character, and if found guilty will need a lengthy prison sentence to keep him away from society for a long, long time.— July 31, 2018 9:15 p.m.
CPUC wipes away Peevey/Edison collusion, criminal investigation
Outrage after outrage, and it just doesn't stop. The AG didn't investigate or prosecute this fraud until the time ran out. Anyone really want to see Kamala in the White House? You think it can't get worse? Corruption breeds more corruption.— July 27, 2018 8:07 p.m.
Ex-Marine accused of killing Oceanside neighbor in broad daylight
In an outrageous case like this one, "reasonable bail" is none at all. If by some set of circumstances the judge did set bail, it would be in the $millions, and this defendant would not be able to make that anyway. Four family members squeezed into one apartment doesn't suggest any degree of affluence; moreover his history of beating feet across the Mexican border to desert the USMC makes him an extreme flight risk. No, he stays in the slammer until he's tried, convicted, and sentenced.— July 27, 2018 7:59 p.m.
CPUC wipes away Peevey/Edison collusion, criminal investigation
Langley says it all, and most eloquently. Hooray for the one-party system in California!— July 27, 2018 5:43 p.m.
