Too bad, San Diego
When EDCO began using the plastic containers here in Vista, it was made clear to us that when the containers were no longer serviceable, they would be replaced. That replacement is part of the monthly fee we pay for trash, recyclable, and green waste collection. I've noted that the design of the containers has changed over the years, and the current generation appears more robust than those we first saw. If I'm right, we will have them lasting far longer than the older ones did.— November 7, 2018 7:53 a.m.
Developer Moores in last-minute SDSU money move
G is not the final word; lawsuits, many of them, will follow. For all we know, one or more may be filed as soon as the results of the election are certified. The talk of demolishing an (im)perfectly good stadium and then building a new one from scratch is utterly foolish. The cost to just rid the site of the current structure would be daunting, as would the prospect of constructing a new one a short distance away. This vote is just the beginning of a long and tortured process that will consume, probably, decades.— November 7, 2018 7:48 a.m.
Developer Moores in last-minute SDSU money move
All of these machinations, past and present, are reasons to vote against both of the ballot measures. What's the hurry? That stadium and the land will be there tomorrow. Neither of the schemes really explains where all the necessary funds will come from.— November 5, 2018 2:51 p.m.
“Best friend” murderer gets 80-years-to-Life
This Judge Monroy, back in May, 2015, went easy on a career criminal with the last name of Lowary. Now he's getting tough. Could it be that he's watching the ballot box? First elected in 2010, he was reelected in 2016 running unopposed. So, the voters won't get another chance at him until 2022, and that's a long way off.— November 3, 2018 4:01 p.m.
Once more from Carlsbad
The casinos do that, although I doubt they do it as much as the adoring press claims.— November 2, 2018 7:30 p.m.
Booby traps set for Baja 1000 drivers
Gee, maybe some people along that race course don't like it at all. Given the non-responsiveness of the Baja government, are they taking it into their own hands? That's what it suggests, and the chances of getting caught and "fined and handed over to the local authorities for damages" are about nil.— November 2, 2018 7:27 p.m.
This would be embarrassing for Oceanside - story updated
An official transcript is a legal document. Any degree-granting institution will send a certified copy anywhere the degree recipient requests. That transcript is the final say on the grant of a degree; no other organization or reference carries the weight of the official transcript. No matter how many years have passed, the registrar of the university has the academic records of everyone who took a class at the campus. So, it would be a simple matter for anyone, including myself, to secure a copy of my transcript at any time (for a fee, of course.) No more discussion is necessary.— November 2, 2018 7:23 p.m.
This would be embarrassing for Oceanside - story updated
No, shame on you. Produce a copy of your transcript and make it available to anyone who asks. That is the proof of graduation--the AA can be mistaken and so can others. BTW, dude, I'm a UCLA grad myself, and if anyone ever had occasion to question that, I'd just make a photocopy of my transcript and send it along. So simple to do if you can claim the degree. The yearbook means nothing, because it required a fee and a photo to be there. The transcript is the proof.— November 2, 2018 6:26 p.m.
Once more from Carlsbad
Why that airport hasn't managed to get and keep carriers is a mystery. It is most convenient for anyone who lives in No County, and if you have to go to Lindbergh (SAN) it is a long trip and a pain. Yet over the years various airlines have tried to service Carlsbad, and have pulled out. 'Way back when, Golden West used to stop its San Diego to LA service there if anyone wanted to board there or terminate there. An American affiliate was serving Carlsbad in the years before this sweet little terminal building was constructed, and it pulled out. Surf Air had me scratching my head because it was running in and out of Carlsbad pretty full on every flight, and seemed to have some commuters who depended on it. Yet Surf Air pulled out and left those folks with no alternative. Let's all hope that this time it finally takes hold and stays. My wife and I might just make a visit to Tahoe so that we can support the service.— November 2, 2018 3:58 p.m.
This would be embarrassing for Oceanside - story updated
Considering the long track record of the Oceanside "Clowncil", the less power it has the better. Keeping the position of treasurer elective will enable the residents of the city to make their desires known. If/when Oceanside gets its political act together, maybe making more offices appointive would make sense. As to Roy's academic claims, remember that it is easy to claim to be a graduate of this or that university. Not so long ago we had a member of the Tri-City Medical board who claimed to have a doctorate from some school in Orange County. No "university" of the name he quoted ever existed, and he had zero documentation of it or of such a degree! It was a total scam. If Roy did in fact graduate UCLA, it is a simple matter for him to secure a copy of his transcript and send facsimiles to anyone who asks.— November 1, 2018 4:14 p.m.
