Finest City Improv jumps from Lafayette to Sixth Ave.
The new location is one neighborhood to the "east?" Last time I looked, Hillcrest was west of North Park/University Heights and anywhere on El Cajon Blvd.— December 19, 2018 8:51 p.m.
Climb a mini peak in rural East County
This posting is fouled up. The reference block for it is that of Goodan Ranch/Sycamore Canyon Preserve, a completely different place, and miles from this hike. Dulzura isn't Poway! Whether the error came from the Canyoneers, or originated at the Reader, it needs to be fixed.— December 19, 2018 9:51 a.m.
Imperial Beach couple stops porch thieves
The headline doesn't come close to a description of what happened here. Did this "stop" anything? It doesn't say. They played a well-deserved prank (or something more serious) on thieves. Did the thieves come back and say that they were now reformed? No mention of that in the story. I think these long-suffering victims of repeated theft really want the thefts to stop. And having the thieves caught is less important. They just want to be left alone. Will a stunt like this stop the thefts? Very unlikely.— December 14, 2018 9:31 p.m.
Lincoln High School was designed to fail
Ponz, In your utterly non-politically correct fashion, you have identified the real reason for school failure or success. When you have a flop of a school it usually reflects the indifference or hostility of the students to learning or advancement or personal success. That's sad, sad, sad.— December 14, 2018 9:18 p.m.
Lincoln High School was designed to fail
The supe is allowed to stay because the board is similarly incompetent. The members run unopposed for their seats as often as not. The district has been in a downward spiral for decades. It somehow manages to run fairly good schools in good neighborhoods, and thus is able to keep pressure off its failing schools. Lincoln High has had some special attention over the years, including a complete rebuilding not-so-long ago. But new bricks and mortar do not a new school make. It soon went back to its old pattern, or worse. If/when the voters in the district finally awaken to the misery in the school system and pay attention to the district board members, they will get new blood. And then maybe, just maybe, things will improve. But don't bet on that.— December 14, 2018 7:56 p.m.
Flashed knife for batteries on El Camino Real
If he goes down for a felony, he'll be out of circulation for a while. But it won't be long enough for a hard case like him.— December 12, 2018 8:02 p.m.
Carmel Valley accidental pond to be drained
Barczewski seems to have been a fairly smart guy in that he bought land in one of the premier development areas of the county. But then he wasn't smart at all when he had a fill made to carry his road over a ravine. The simple step of putting a culvert pipe at the bottom of the fill would have assured drainage and thus no pond (wetland) would have resulted. Makes ya' wondah about folks, doesn't it?— December 12, 2018 7:53 p.m.
Oceanside flood damage was avoidable
Where to start? This recent rainstorm wasn't that heavy; if it had really poured for several hours, then the damage would have been far worse. The mayor is utterly tone deaf. His quote that "The city council knows of no damage [from the rains]” perfectly illustrates how out-of-touch that city government is with its residents. Why do the voters keep reelecting these clowns (and their appointees?) Then there are the McCoy cops, who did nothing, and now have nothing to say about their dereliction of duty. But dereliction of duty is an everyday feature of that wretched PD. The mystery here is why Meridee Johnson keeps her store in Oceanside. Other North County cities would love to have her classy store (and its sales tax receipts.) She needs to look at Carlsbad, Encinitas, Vista and San Marcos, and leave the flood zone to taco joints, surf shops, t-shirt shops, and tire stores.— December 11, 2018 8:35 p.m.
Flashed knife for batteries on El Camino Real
Can we say "tweaker", boys and girls? In light of all those FTAs, the judge could have and should have revoked his bail all together.— December 11, 2018 7:35 p.m.
Escondido Target thieves recognized
Sounds like a supply run for stuff to sell at the swap meet.— December 7, 2018 2:18 p.m.
