Patrick Soon-Shiong thins editors, reporters
As a subscriber to the You-Tee, I can marvel that there any more reporters or editors to shed. The miserable excuse of a newspaper cannot report on many issues of real, everyday importance to readers. Oh, then there is the matter of headlines that don't mesh with the stories they head. Reportage of local matters is skimpy and superficial. Once in a while there is a Watchdog report on some local scandal, but they don't finish the job. The editorial opinions and cartoons are purely from the LA Times. Is there anyone there who has a San Diego outlook? Breen, the editorial cartoonist, has shifted his pitch from the old U-T approach to the liberal slant of the LA Times. The local rag just isn't remotely what it was a few years ago--for better or worse--depending on your viewpoint. After more buyouts, will that rag be at all recognizable to any long-term local reader?— March 18, 2020 7:58 p.m.

Oh, given your name, I have to wish you a Happy Saint Patrick's Day. Enjoy the evening!— March 17, 2020 7:36 p.m.

That gives me much to think about. Thanks for the positive reinforcement.— March 17, 2020 7:26 p.m.

You summed it up eloquently. I failed to read the piece closely. If it had not been for the SB councilpersons it likely would have been rubber-stamped. At least it wasn't approved in spite of the protests. The SDUHSD administration isn't doing so well with its board. Perhaps the board needs to take a close look at the current superintendent. Your comments about the statewide measure that failed surprise me. You are making comments that are (dare I say it?) conservative. I fancy myself with that label--I want to know that tax money and bond money is spent carefully and responsibly. Sadly, that isn't something we can count on. Thanks for taking me to the woodshed.— March 17, 2020 5:43 p.m.

Empire and palace building at their best. That's what school administrators do so well. Good to learn that the board didn't like it. While that building on Encinitas Blvd is a dump, and doesn't meet usual school seismic standards, it isn't an either-or decision for the district. That's a large area and there are always office buildings for lease. (With the closure of so many retailers, conversion of retail space to host the district offices is an option that should be carefully explored.) This may be an opening salvo in a big fight. They just had a dust-up about the renaming of the continuation/alternative school, and the administration didn't get its way with the board. Kudos to the San Dieguito board for actually running the place and not turning a blind eye.— March 16, 2020 12:47 p.m.
ExxonMobil lobbyist bankrolls Ben Hueso supervisorial hopes
I'd say that's more than enough reason to make sure you never get charged with DUI. Explaining it for the rest of your life has to be a terrible burden.— March 14, 2020 1:18 p.m.

You would remember that, wouldn't you. Oh well. My reaction as I see his smiling mug is "Would you buy ANYTHING from this guy?"— March 14, 2020 11:12 a.m.
How San Diego County voted – so far
I'm inclined to agree with your prediction of the outcome of the race. But I'm still trying to figure out the opponent; is he of Chaldean or Mexican heritage, or both? That hyphenated last name looks like something an ad agency came up with. For a young guy, even out around El Cajon, I'd think a shaven, clean cut face would sell far better than something that suggests an Arab guerilla. Guess we will find out, won't we?— March 10, 2020 8:32 p.m.

How about putting all that into usual US lingo, not lawyer talk? Could this derail Gloria's campaign and electability? That's the real bottom line issue.— March 10, 2020 8:24 p.m.

Care to let us in on the details? This all sounds fascinating, but attaching a pair of legal docs that we cannot read doesn't get the job done. Inquiring minds want to know.— March 9, 2020 5:47 p.m.
