Death Valley Dancer: The Legend of Marta Becket

San Diego women who have converted to Islam
try walking around in Egypt, turkey, morocco , the Arab Muslim part of the globe. it's bloody hot, sunburnt heads, men and women in long robes with head scarves or pieces, Easter day in alexandria families at the beach, strolling along the boardwalk, young people in traditional dress holding hands sitting on the sea wall. my friends dress for the occasion- also wear traditional dress, I actually see it as charming sorry. passing judgement on other cultures using western values is like someone hiring me to build their house, I don't believe for a second I have the right to tell anyone, anywhere how to believe, how to dress, how to think. I always try very hard not to shoot my mouth off about things that I really have no knowledge of, particularly sine I'm a traveler and the reason I love travel embraces and is fascinated by the unique features of different cultures. it's bad enough seeing McDonald's in every country - I say if you haven't lived it, seen it, touched it, then get on with your life.— November 13, 2011 9:25 a.m.
Murals in the Barrio
One of my old friends is an artist and the over site manager of the restoration of the murals at Chicano park- ricardo duffy- and I walk past the old town murals every morning- need to cross over and look at the ones on the liquor store side. Talked to sal the artist several times when he was taking photos. Lobe the fact original artists are doing restoration in barrio Logan very cool! I'm going to send the link to ricardo- he'd love this!— November 12, 2011 8:54 a.m.

Brain Food
Collaboration Kitchen is so much more than a foodie event or cooking class. as a foodie and a veteran of probably close to 100 cooking classes I have to say that this unique event brings together much more than seafood and chefs. Take a look at any audience and you will see fishermen and women and their partners- it's all about the sustainability and the sport of fishing, and the dedicated home cooks looking for a tip on a new way to prepare that fish that just came home for dinner. Yes, the foodies like me are there too, but there's also more men at this happening then I have ever seen at a cooking demo. And Tommy and the guys at Catalina would rather die than butcher the wonderful fresh product they sell to top restaurants and chefs. - and increasingly to those of us willing to go beyond salmon and ahi - I'd call it sashimi like you never dreamed- unless you spend time out there on the boats or in a wholesale fish market. The event takes place in a wholesale fish warehouse. The chefs are challenged to prepare Dishes with the most plentiful and often challenging ingredients- they haul a big old fish 3 or 4 ft long out of the fridge for the sashimi demo. Wowsah! It's Buon or bring it and share. You can also take home some seafood at special prices that evening. It's not a fancy pantsy happening- it's fun and casual and entertaining and yummy and educational. If you've never gone to one, get on the mailing list. I guarantee you be back more than once. And oh yeah, they have retail hours, if you can sneak down there during the work week and I think on Saturday mornings. Tommy does spontaneous cooking demos. Love seafood? What do you want? They got it- or something new you'll like even better!— October 29, 2011 1:52 p.m.
