Patching San Diego curbs is only a patch job
But what about the faded green street signs all over the county? Some are unreadable now thanks to sun bleaching.— December 23, 2020 3:35 p.m.
Kensington Brewing fills up fast
The Brewery "tasting room" was where the American films were kept at Kensington Video, the now-defunct "Buddies & Babes" (crushed by COVID-19) was the foreign film/TV show/"porn in the back corner" part of the store, and the ice cream parlor next to that was a storage room for all their older material (Beta tapes and at least one rental Beta deck from the 1980s.) Before they rented out the storage room, they were getting a lot of tapes and DVDs from other mom-and-pop rental stores that were closing down.— December 23, 2020 3:26 p.m.
USS Bonhomme Richard to be repurposed as dive-in museum of recent Naval history
Arr, it be a joke, matey.....— December 14, 2020 5:02 p.m.
Sports Arena redeveloper delinquent on $190 million loan
In a dying gallaria mall, the "new anchor" is one of the second-string chains, like Gold's Gym or Victoria's Secret, just talk to YouTube filmmaker Dan Bell (channel "This is Dan Bell") who walks though them at glacial speed. Locally, strip malls are being held together with Starbucks stores and Dollar Trees.— December 14, 2020 4:56 p.m.
Todd Gloria gets money from 101 Ash
Where did you vanish to, Ponzi? It's December and you've been gone for a month and a half.— December 14, 2020 4:55 p.m.
Six-figure salaries marked Faulconer’s costly patronage
Whaa? Can't mention what a gang of crooks SD GOP are?— December 14, 2020 4:36 p.m.
Tying Bry to Trump cost donors more than $1.3 million
"Neighbors for Housing Solutions Supporting Todd Gloria for San Diego Mayor 2020" is a horrendous mouthful. Just call it "You-Know-Who for Todd Gloria 2020" and that gets the message across, because we can guess who his backers are. Otherwise the groups need they own names like "The Clairemont Crew", "Big Business Bōsōzoku", "The Alpine Reich", "Los Rejects de San Ysidro" and so on.— December 14, 2020 4:33 p.m.
Will a Landmark ruling save the Ken?
The 15 either knocked out a strip of houses back in the mid-1990s.....or they widened it, but either way, it's been like that since the end of the Clinton administration.— December 14, 2020 4:23 p.m.
Will a Landmark ruling save the Ken?
OK, now that we are in December, is the theater completely doomed? There is a bar gate at the entrance with a padlock. I'm guessing it's there to keep the homeless from sleeping by the front doors. It's really depressing if you know the area; the former foreign film section of Kensington Video was made into that goofy pet and baby food place ("Buddies and Babies") that collapsed thanks to the COVID sledgehammer, so it's closed theater/working beer-tasting room/closed storefront/working bar as you walk towards the library. Booze and Italian food dominate that side of Adams. What's going to happen to the Ken? Become yet another clothing store?— December 14, 2020 4:11 p.m.
Transparency not hallmark of Todd Gloria's top operators
San Diego City Hall is a closed club and we're not invited. Smash all those poles down with a stolen tank and things might change.— December 3, 2020 1:50 a.m.
