Union-Tribune's new voice from the north is Soon-Shiong's daughter
A lot of these gentleman accumulate wealth in their own country, and bring it with them to the US. In Palo Alto (Silicon Valley) wealthy Chinese pay CASH for homes valued at $10-$15 million., sight unseen. Maybe Zillow? I believe this man brought his wealth with him.— April 6, 2021 8:12 a.m.
Does it feel as if San Diego crime is down?
I agree with Alex. Crime stats don't mean anything unless numbers are attached. And for those of you who keep posting on Facebook or Next Door (crimes in your neighborhood) all you're doing is drawing more crime into your neighborhood. You're not helping your neighbors. You're helping criminals who "do it for a living." Be careful what you post. You never know who is reading.— April 2, 2021 9:02 a.m.
As San Diego county dodged minimum wage, elderly suffered
If there is anyone who really deserves higher pay, it's caregivers. But there is one thing people need to keep in mind in any profession. What does this job pay? If you're NOT comfortable with the pay, whether you're a doctor, lawyer, you babysat back in the day for 50 cents an hour -- or anything in between, don't take the job. Taking a job when you're not comfortable with the pay is a lose-lose situation. Not only will you shortchange yourself financially, your work will suffer because you feel unfairly compensated. Think about it before you sign on the dotted line. There are people who are comfortable with lower wages, and if enough people don't apply for the job, maybe wages will be raised.— March 22, 2021 9:38 a.m.
National City says no to marijuana
Just because California voters voted in favor of marijuana doesn't mean a city has to give in to selling it or having lounges.. Marijuana is still illegal under federal law, and federal law supercedes state law. The US Constitutions says federal law is "The law of the land." I wouldn't want that crap in my neighborhood.— March 17, 2021 12:51 p.m.
After 10 years, Gold Coast Drive finally to be fixed
If it was built incorrectly in 1969, labeled by a Councilman as the worst street in San Diego, causing accidents and wear and tear on cars, etc. it's abundantly clear the street needs to go. You can tell just looking at the picture. Stating that the street should remain as is because it slows drivers down and is safer for the kids is ridiculous. The street needs to be redone -- a long time ago. Get real.— March 15, 2021 9:08 p.m.
There goes the Oceanside beach
The homes are very close to the water, and I wouldn't want strangers that close to my home either. Is that the price you pay living along the beach? This is a well-written article, not a "hit piece." SD Reader is an alternative newspaper, and alternative newspapers usually have stylistic, opinionated articles. As far as "blogging anonymously" we're all blogging anonymously, except the writers. People use fictitious names all the time, pretending to be authentic. Unless your CDL has been scanned, online you are who you say you are.— March 11, 2021 8:36 p.m.
Inside the Biden migrant camp in Tijuana
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown Waiting for something or someone to show you the way.— March 9, 2021 11:46 a.m.
San Diego's anti-fascists turn fascist
This is a great article. As always, Eric Bartl is spot on. This is "honest journalism" and some people can't handle the truth. The truth hurts.— March 3, 2021 4:30 p.m.
Mary Ann Humfreville missing from Bahia de los Angeles for two months
These days it's not safe to spend the day in Mexico, yet alone live there. Mexico has gotten a lot more dangerous (not that it was ever really safe) and Americans need to wise up. If you want to retire in a less expensive country, there are safer countries than Mexico.— February 27, 2021 8:28 a.m.
San Diego's anti-fascists turn fascist
Antifa -- get out of town. Your behavior is disgusting. You're not on Jerry Springer.— February 24, 2021 3:04 p.m.
