Bohemian 'rito with Guac
Btw, the title of this blog should read "Bizarre tales..." Or should it? No one has EVER noticed that I spell the word as "wierd" instead of "weird." Two reasons: 1. "wierd" is a viable alternate spelling, and 2. I like the sense of the uncanny it somehow creates when you reverse the "i" and the "e"...;)— February 23, 2010 10:47 p.m.

Yes, it's a book, but the link I posted should have been to the telly show coming up on Sundance. I like that the book is a collection of essays, though, and would like to check it out, too. Looks like Alibris has it for $4.44. Can't beat that ;)— February 23, 2010 10:40 p.m.

But when it is legalized, how do we know it won't be regulated by pharma? I ask because I'm not overly familiar with the angles on this issue...— February 23, 2010 10:36 p.m.

"Medical marijuana dispensaries wouldn't be as prevalent if they'd just legalize it..." Actually, I'm hoping they will. And it makes sense that they would be as prevalent, unless cannabis is then regulated by big pharma and big pharmacies. I've just discovered that while pot does nothing for intestinal inflammation (for me, anyway), it does wonders for inflamed joints (ha ha, pun over ;). NOW I get it--why people do find it useful for pain due to a variety of chronic conditions. It bites to think that the medical card isn't good in every state, though. I would not want to get busted while traveling. However, it seems worth it enough to go ahead and get it legally, depending on how many Franklins it is going to set me back...— February 23, 2010 9:37 p.m.

What are you peeps talking about? The butter knife comment about Lambert is still there. Was there another comment I didn't see? 'Swere to gawd I feel like an old confused lady today...;( Oh, speaking of Lambert, Cuddle: A new show coming to Sundance called "Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys": http://girlswholikeboys.com/media.php— February 23, 2010 4:29 p.m.

PS: We are happier with our thicker "airport glass" sliding door and window, and would recommend it to anyone with outside noise issues--we are right under the flight path, and it really muffles the noise of plane traffic. PPS: Just took that walk to the bridge (quiet as a mouse). Lovely day, lovely bridge--nice to have it back. Did notice the delivery trucks are right back on that route...— February 23, 2010 1:24 p.m.

Pete, there are not many homes at all 'in' the two canyons near me. Like, maybe three homes, and they are older. Please, inform yourself thoroughly before attempting to pursue such a lame point. Hmmm, sounds like we are pretty close neighbors, Dorian. I am sensitive to anyone's noise issues, really--I've just given up on San Diego and noise control. Are you personally involved in this association or subcommittee? What do you think will happen? The stops and lights will discourage the heavier traffic? Would you agree with my assessment of San Diego as a fast-growing city that doesn't yet understand big city etiquette? This would include not only noise issues, but things like dog owners, who do not understand what "curb" means--they think it means "bush" and "side of building," and "just use a baggy for the solids;" they are astonished to be called on allowing their dogs to let loose acrid yellow streams all over the landscaping and sides of residential buildings. Oops. Looks like I haven't yet given up on complaining about it ;) Anyway, would you say these kinds of noise control issues are explainable via my characterization?— February 23, 2010 1:21 p.m.
Epic Beard Man
You're right--I was a little harsh in that judgement, but Pete, if you admit to someone's point, it is going to be Don Bauder or refried--you don't usually allow anything I say, for example, to bear much weight. That's fine. We are at different ends of the political and ideological spectrums on 99% of the issues. But the "my way or the highway" attitude still applies, yes, and I would love to see you dig deeper on some of the issues I raise--especially on the power of language and racism. What I meant by 'useless controversy' is the way you constantly drum up controversy by using racist language and invective. There's already too much of it out there, uttered by dyed-in-the-wool, non-ambivalent racists. Why more is necessary to protect free speech has never been adequately explained by you. So yes, useless controversy. As for the issue in Oakland, this is the first I've heard of it. If you'd like, I can do some reading to investigate, and come back and discuss. I'd love to know especially why you are making a racial issue out of it in this particular way (i.e., re: a black man getting a deserved "beat down"--sounds like you relish that, don't you?). Of course, you already know I'm going to say that we have a system to deal with criminal behavior, and that I don't condone vigilante justice. ;)— February 23, 2010 11:54 a.m.

...and it opened yesterday! I'm going to celebrate by walking over our much-missed bridge, to enjoy the view of the bay and canyons, for the first time in over a year!— February 23, 2010 11 a.m.
