OTTAWA - Right-wing pundit Ann Coulter canceled a University of Ottawa address Tuesday after organizers decided it wasn’t safe for her to speak.
About 2,000 “threatening” students crowded the entrance to Marion Hall, posing a security threat, said a spokesman for the organizers.
“There was a risk there could be physical violence,” said Canadian conservative activist Ezra Levant, who was scheduled to introduce Coulter.
About 10 Ottawa police cars were called to the scene, but there were no incidents.
In an interview, Coulter said she has given 100 to 200 speeches at colleges and this was the first time one of her addresses has been “completely shut down.” She said the incident reflects poorly on the University of Ottawa.
“It’s at the absolute bush league, bottom-of-the-barrel schools that you get the worst treatment and still, I’ve never seen this before,” she said. “I’m guessing the scores to get into the University of Ottawa are not very challenging.”

Home Again
Ok, folks I'm in! Now that I've seen "beer can regattas," I must admit to being mildly intrigued. However, let's not get overly sidetracked-- weren't these original photos supposed to be just a little naughty or sumpin? downtownphotoguy in some kind of compromising position with Patsy? Patsy shouldn't worry about herself, that's for sure--looking good there, platscha! :)— March 29, 2010 1:52 a.m.

nan, do you know these people? How do you know you want to see their pics, then, hmm? ;) Question for downtownphotoguy: Do you know uptownphotoguy? Not sure if he calls himself that, but he's always taking head shots and the like in front of the Christian Science church in Banker's Hill.— March 28, 2010 4:19 a.m.

Sweet cat poem, nan, by which you have redeemed yourself ;) Just like I don't dig the whole man/woman joke thing, I've never understood why there must be a gender or any line drawn in the sand over cats and dogs. I love both, and live quite happily that way. Dogs do not make one any more masculine than do monster trucks, btw--and a love of cats does not somehow emasculate the cat lover...;)— March 27, 2010 10:21 p.m.

Ok,... "shivering frame" makes sense, but-- "literary frame" also makes sense. The body and the book become one here, so probably "literary frame" is better at grabbing all the balloon strings and bringing the bunch back together... Yet, "shivering" gives a great sense of the effect upon this 'other' who is the writer the writer speaks of here, yet who is also a body/book--and affected--so the 'shivering' demonstrates... What I just realized: "in your eyes green and mischievous lips that crinkled" makes it seem as though it is the lips that are green and mischievous. If "green" were replaced with something both eyes and lips could be, there'd be no awkwardness there... And of course you should post your poetry here nan, for us! You've got me and Cuddles as faithful readers, and others pop in and out, always to enjoy it--otherwise they wouldn't leave the comments they do. Maybe you want to explore more sites for just poetry, like Cuddles does, but I hope you remain here, too. We need more like you (if that were possible ;)...— March 25, 2010 2:13 a.m.
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Grant effused: "Oh, man, wrist splints!! Oh, I just had a fabulous idea!! Sexy orthopedic garb. Just think - those splints could have laces instead of velcro, like a wrist corset." Hey Grant, these are all fantastic ideas--but how on earth did you know? I went back to the ortho office and demanded better splints, since mine have started falling apart at the seams after only a month's wear. Well, after going through the catalogue with the nurse, I was allowed to pick my own--they are soft leather, no velcro, and will indeed lace up--like a wrist corset!!!!!— March 25, 2010 1:02 a.m.

I agree, except: "...wanders around, spilts and goes down the street." Huh? on stilts? Spilt something? ;)— March 25, 2010 12:58 a.m.
Californication/True Blood/the Canada connection
google it dear--I just spent a bunch of time on your Coulter "blog"--in quotation marks 'cause you didn't give us anything of your own opinion on the issue, eh? ;)— March 25, 2010 12:54 a.m.

Nan, I wasn't able to access the article, just the comments on it, so here's a related article link, and an excerpt with the gist of it. I stopped reading the comments under your link because they were short, ignorant, and not dealing with the actual events. As for this blog entry, it would be more interesting to read your own thoughts on all of this, nan...but I'll go ahead and write a comment for ya: So, to be clear: Her speech was not canceled because her right to free speech under Canada's charter was infringed upon; it was canceled due to safety issues. The student group protesting posed a danger through sheer numbers, I guess, outside the hall where she was to speak. As usual, a bunch of yahoos want to bring up "free speech" without considering what really happened--including Coulter herself, who decides to lob immediate insult upon the University of Ottawa, rather than consider the situation for what it was. Interesting that she thinks vigorous student protest is the sign of a "bottom of the barrel" academic institution. Guess she'd rather show up at a high-security campus with snipers in place, and a red carpet rolled out and Muzak playing with subliminal messaging behind it, advising all students to "stay calm and move along..." ;) I personally believe much of what Ann Coulter says on television to be aimed at selling her incoherent packaged hate speech--I mean, 'books.' I'm sure the students at U of Ottawa were doing just that--protesting her as a hate speech monger. They would be correct; little of what she says is serious, and none of it worthy of attention. I myself am proud to say I boycotted my own commencement ceremonies because Newt Gingrich was the speaker. Did I begrudge him his right to free speech? No. Did I wish to celebrate the finish of my studies, and receive my degree in the presence of a politician whose politics I had discovered to be morally reprehensible and socially irresponsible?.. Nope. Link and excerpt to follow:— March 25, 2010 12:46 a.m.
