Bassist Marshall Hawkins and friends celebrate the life of the late Daniel Jackson at Dizzy’s on Sat
Amazing— December 10, 2017 9:15 p.m.

Great performance action picture of three jazz prime movers who were at this big event, playing together at the same amazing Dizzy's Jazz Legends event, at Tango Del Rey. And, all three of these exceptional musicians are San Diego residents. What an experience that was. Nice.— December 10, 2017 9:11 p.m.

Are our cops really this bad?
You bet they are. SD area Police and Sheriff Departments have more than the usual number of authoritarian, pushy, aggressive, bullying and gang type hard ass and violent law enforcement officers. That character type is definitely drawn to law enforcement, because they know they can get paid to abuse the public and get away with it.— March 5, 2015 4 p.m.
Nocturnal meditations in the key of jazz
The Night People musicians are definitely some of San Diego's best, both individually and when they play in small groups or larger bands. This is a good platform to bring some of San Diego's finest jazz musicians together at once. The musical performances are excellent. Aside from a few minutes here and there, when only a few of the musicians are able to briefly shine, playing solo, in duo, or in trio, each of the Night People performances sounds essentially the same as the last one, pretty much the same as last time and the time before, all the way through. Great musicians, playing great music, including special guests or featured artists. Joe Garrison is good at writing for and arranging Night People, as well. Even with featured artists and solos, however, it turns out that the Night People big band makes very much the same overall sound each time it performs. Not a bad thing, just the same thing again.— January 11, 2015 4:54 p.m.
Joshua White debuts new group at Dizzy's
That drummer was heavy handed and godawful noisy for the beginning two pieces, Curiosity Landing and Masqualero, to say the least. Each of those two tunes have sounded much better in Joshua's prior performances. "Relentless, carpet-bombing and maelstrom assault," all describe Reid's playing well, but euphamistically. He was not "inspired," he was awful. Good thing he cooled it for the rest of the performance.— October 6, 2013 7:01 p.m.
Bruce Cameron: jazz any way you like it
Good point, Danny.— November 4, 2012 5:31 p.m.
Zlatkovich soars at Dizzy's grand opening
It was wonderful, musical evening. OOPS. Der composer war actually "Ennio Morricone," aber nicht his cousin Enrico.— October 14, 2012 4:14 p.m.
Joshua White Quintet live at 98 Bottles
Amazingly good music, which excels beyond even RB's succinct and appreciative verbal descriptions. Joshua White Quintet. Yes, indeed.— October 8, 2012 1:22 p.m.
SD Gas Prices Soar Past 94-Year Record
"C'mon people!" ? Another standard cliche, in company with, Awesome, Keep in Touch, and Happy Camper. Not only do the oil companies have us by the balls and the politicians in their pockets, but commentary on the newsy articles are 7th grade, powerless, redneck rants. Absolutely hilarious.— October 6, 2012 5:09 p.m.
