Sweetwater board candidate has his sign damaged
It's nice to see that one of the many great things that happen at Sweetwater got national press. Let's keep the momentum going. When the board votes for the new budget on Monday, I hope that there will many positive things for the local press to print. Hint, hint. ;)— June 14, 2013 9:58 a.m.

Thank you for keeping the focus on the facts and relevant issues. Sometimes reading these blogs is better than watching any soap opera (and I don't mean that as a positive thing). These are real issues - real lives at stake. Oh, by the way, Assembly member Shirley Weber has had to cancel her coffee chat scheduled for this Sat. in Bonita.— June 13, 2013 5:53 p.m.

Assemblymember Shirley Weber holds Budget Town Hall in Chula Vista
I voted for Assembly member Shirley Weber and appreciate that she held a budget town hall in CV. However, I'm concerned the public had no input and that Mr. Alt, CFO, for Sweetwater Union High School District was asked to represent education in the South Bay. Could it be that the assembly member is not aware what's going on in the district? Mr. Alt talks about restoring programs that were cut, but all we hear about are cuts to ROP and Adult Education. And what, pray tell, are those "unique priorities" that the district will now be able to fund. Assembly member Shirley Weber will hold a Community Coffee on Saturday, June 15, 2013 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Bonita Public Library "Community Coffee Chats provide an opportunity for you to meet me in person, learn about the legislative process and voice your concerns." OK, let's go and voice our concerns.— June 11, 2013 4:13 p.m.

Please be more helpful. I couldn't find any information, either when I googled it.— June 10, 2013 11:30 p.m.

timtim, I hope you're not McCann because you would be embarrassing not only yourself (war hero comment), but your wife, daughters, and your church (the insults). You sound like a petulant child. As far as the 300K citizens not writing comments, I was one of them. I have my life (job, family, interests) that keeps me pretty busy. I finally got involved after going to a board meeting and seeing the total disrespect for the community. I didn't want to feel impotent and powerless so I started educating myself. We voted all of you in to take care of school business. We take care of the kids at home, you make sure they're educated. I thought that was the general agreement (compact, if you will) Call me naive, but I thought it really was all about the kids for all of you. You hold the education of children -our future- in your hands. Just stop and think about that for a moment. Think about the enormity of your responsibility. For once I hope that our kids are more interested in social media than in the news. What's been happening here is very sad. What's come out in the grand jury testimony would make anyone - child or adult- feel hopeless. On the other hand, I'm heartened by the small? group of selfless individuals who have been fighting the good fight. (Apostle Paul, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Tim. 4:7) Thank you to all those who have chosen to light a candle rather than curse the darkness. Keep shining your light!— June 10, 2013 11:23 p.m.
Sweetwater scandal spotlight: trustee Jim Cartmill
I apologize to anyone who drove out to Quintard St. at 7:30 for the Board Mtg. I guess I'm not savvy enough to know that you have to call the district to make sure nothing has changed. (They changed the place but there was no public notice of the change - hmmm) I'm glad to hear some people made it. I'm past being mad. Now I'm going to get busy! This from the Sweetwater website: *Community Relations BP 1100 **COMMUNICATION WITH THE PUBLIC** The Board of Trustees appreciates the importance of community involvement and therefore shall strive to keep the community informed of developments within the school system in **timely and understandable ways.** The Superintendent or his/her designee shall use **all available means of communication to keep the public aware** of the goals, programs, achievements and needs of our schools. Members of the community shall have opportunities to become involved in the schools and to express their interests and concerns.* If you look at the district's board calendar you'll notice that the Friday meeting is not listed: [http://schoolboard.sweetwaterschools.org/calendar…] I realize it's not an accident or an oversight, I just wonder if it's legal. Any lawyers out there? [1]: http://schoolboard.sweetwaterschools.org/calendar/— June 9, 2013 9:52 a.m.
Sweetwater scandal: Ed Brand’s claims contradicted
I've been following the news and I can't stand it anymore. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, they outdo themselves. A teleconference at 7:45 am? Sooo, the public has to get up early, while they sit at home in their shorts approving what has already been decided behind closed doors. It's obvious they don't want anyone at this teleconference because they didn't publish the number to call and they confuse people like me by listing two different addresses in the same page. Let's hope whoever wants to go finds the right place.— June 6, 2013 11:14 p.m.
Sweetwater scandal: Ed Brand’s claims contradicted
It has to do with the ROP teachers who were given lay-off notices. It has to be voted on before June 13 (I think that's the right date) Only 3 board members will be there (or at home -since it's a teleconference at 7:45 in the morning!!!!!) You know who they are and how they'll vote. If you have their phone numbers, please publish them here. I'd like to talk to them.— June 6, 2013 4:28 p.m.
