Picket at Sweetwater trustee Cartmill's home
What was Cartmill's response? Did leave his home to talk to the picketers?— January 18, 2014 9:07 p.m.
Santa and Grinch visit Sweetwater District meeting

Sweetwater teachers may strike over district policies
So the good news is that the district is willing to continue discussing these important issues. What a nice surprise for the teachers shortly before Thanksgiving. Maybe as a Christmas present to the students, parents and teachers they'll get it all sorted out by then. It's sad to see my friends and neighbors so stressed out. Thank you Susan for your continued reporting.— November 25, 2013 10:25 a.m.
Chula Vista school admin moves forward with Common Core Standards
If you have ELL students (English Learners) you might be interested to know that the Common Core doesn't address the needs of ELL students as it does for special ed students. This lack of focus on the ELL population was brought up at the Sweetwater Union High School District board meeting. Bertha Lopez, one of the board members, asked how the district will make sure that they are impacting ELL learners and Ms. Castillejas answers that "Common Core **makes no provision** for that." If you want to listen to the discussion, go to the district website, click on the "school board" tab, "agenda and minutes" click on "enter public site" then "regular board meeting" and scroll down to Item G3 audio #41.— November 22, 2013 12:22 a.m.
Sweetwater Athletics Hall of Fame scrutinized
**bbq** talks about a grassroots group - that's us! A friend and I had an idea: We may all have been contacting various representatives individually, but I suggest that we contact all the representatives together in the same week and let them know we are vocal and **we vote.** If I get 20 "likes", I'll post the names, phone numbers, emails, twitter and Facebook accounts of our local reps. (Cheryl Cox, Ron Morrison, David Alvarez, Bonnie Dumanis, Tony Atkins, Lorena Gonzalez, Sherly Weber, Ben Hueso, Randolph Ward, Lyn Neylon, and anyone else you can think of) You could also forward your emails and have your spouse/partner/friends email the representatives or post your "open letter" on their Facebook page. By clicking the thumbs up icon you pledge to make at least 5 contacts in one week. Are you in?— November 6, 2013 11:48 p.m.

Cops kick out public from Sweetwater board meeting
Thank you Susan. I'm so tired of him. Can we go back to ignoring timtim? Let's not dignify his insults, sophomoric remarks, and generally low-brow comments with a response. If we do, we give him a sense of importance that he doesn't deserve. A word to the wise: Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. Unreasonable search of Olympian High School students?
Just saw the News 10 video. 300 non-working fire alarms! Shouldn't someone go straight to jail for that kind of negligence? When will the bad news end? I guess when the "leaders" go. I can't wait for that day either, anniej. Tonight I just feel sad.— October 8, 2013 11:08 p.m.
