Big trouble in Eastlake III
Susan, so glad to see your name again! I've missed your honest journalism.— September 25, 2015 4:17 p.m.
Something is not right at Sweetwater
Since the hiring committee made recommendations to the board, it stands to reason that the hiring committee needs better information and direction. I feel for the new board members. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when starting any job. But they have to do it in front of the public. It can't be much fun. More than a learning curve, they also have to rely on the advice of the present administration, and some of them may have their own agendas.— March 12, 2015 3:31 p.m.
Transparent as mud in Chula Vista
So who cast the votes for the high school?— March 2, 2015 8:48 p.m.
iPads are great for porn and video games
Someone explain this to me: the conventional wisdom is that kids need the iPads to be ready for the real world (21st century bla, bla, bla) and yet these kids are so tech savvy that they can dupe parents and teachers. Any curious child will learn how to use any device in less than a day. Teachers can show them the myriad of educational uses in a few months. So they need iPads in 7th grade ... why? The subject of pornography and porn addiction also needs to be addressed. Kids need to learn about "the real world" of relationships, sex, and intimacy and not be left to assume that porn is "real." Can anyone with a highschooler tell me if it's covered in sex ed? And are professionals teaching those classes? Let's save money on iPads and invest in Nutrition classes, Parenting classes, Civics classes, and Ethics classes. Let's send forth educated, healthy, engaged graduates that will embody America's highest ideals.— November 5, 2014 11:52 p.m.
McCann's plan a sham?

Hardship south of I-8, cont'd
The community needs to organize and go to the city council meetings to protest. David Alvarez can't do it alone. Call his office (619) 236-6688 and let them know so they can plan to get an interpreter, if necessary. His office speaks Spanish. On Monday October 20 they meet at 6pm. Take the trolley. City Council meetings are held Monday and Tuesday of every week except during scheduled Legislative Recesses. The meetings can be watched on CityTV - Channel 24 on Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable within the San Diego City limits or via live webcast. The Obama–La Jolla beat
Mr. Harrison - You do the Reader and the readers a disservice with your article. The derisive and dismissive slant to your reporting speaks volumes. What I fail to comprehend is your motivation for wasting print space ridiculing people who have taken time our of their day to take a stand and exercise their right of free speech. Was it so hard to find a few intelligent, articulate people among the hundreds to quote? In future, please don't waste my time with such inane comments. If you have an ax to grind, please state it clearly and be done with it!— May 9, 2014 10:13 a.m.
Guilty Trustees (is not, unfortunately, a band name)
I'm happy to say good-bye to this forum. But never fear, I will continue reading. While I'm by no means satisfied with the result, I'm just glad it's behind us. A heart-felt thank you to all who sacrificed and all those who educated me/us. I was blissfully ignorant and naive. Those days are gone, and that's a good thing! Now I hope a Sweetwater teacher will start posting about Common Core, the LCFF and the LCAP. We need someone who knows what's going on to inform us. The district has been having meetings but I find them very unsatisfactory. Principals don't seem to understand LCFF (or pretend not to so they don't have to inform the public) and the scripted options given are freakin' endless. (Has anyone been to the district website, looked high and low for the survey, only to discover it has 50!!! questions?) Yes, SUHSD you can now check the LCAP compliance box, but you're doing a p__ __ ss poor job of getting REAL parental input. If anyone has energy left, pay close attention to LCFF. There's a new money trail to follow. And don't get me started on Common Core. If well implemented it could be a good thing, but right now it seems like the LCAP/Common Core Connection = even more testing. Poor kids!— April 25, 2014 1:44 p.m.
