Tech grads: job search will worsen dramatically if immigration bill passes
The bill should be combined with a higher minimum wage for these workers, to guarantee no employer will use the visas to bust wages, $20 an hour for laborers, $6000 monthly for engineers, something like that. Employers who really need workers can afford that sort of pay. Some are just trying to cheat workers out of a fair wage of course.— April 19, 2013 8:42 p.m.
Possible portent: helmet maker found liable in football injury
The helmet and pads are completely wrong, they are hard on the outside and cause injury while they advertise protection. A helmet similar in concept to a boxing glove is needed, they should be weighed and inspected before every game, just as in boxing. A crippling weapon is sold to school children as protection, of course they're liable, if they did this knowingly they are criminal as well. Sad that utter stupidity once again is the best defense.— April 18, 2013 12:31 p.m.
Possible portent: helmet maker found liable in football injury
This is just a start, the helmets also cause broken bones, nerve damage, and soft tissue damage, both for the wearer and those they block or tackle. The pads and shoes also injure needlessly. The irony is that a constant redesigned improvement of their equipment might have been very profitable. The present equipment might very well be banned, that will present an opportunity for increased sales for someone.— April 17, 2013 4:48 p.m.
Reporter, laid off by U-T, wins Pulitzer Prize
I mean no disrespect to local reporters, and the work is not as easy as my comic simile, but Randy Cunningham was living in a Rancho Santa Fe mansion before the UT tripped over his crimes. So often the UT wholeheartedly supported candidates, such as Cunningham, who were always drunken stooges of the big money, even before their crimes became too obvious to ignore. I commend those who did good work at the UT in spite of their management, a place where the truth sets you free, from employment.— April 16, 2013 4:16 p.m.
Reporter, laid off by U-T, wins Pulitzer Prize
I'm glad to hear someone left the UT to start a career in journalism, perhaps someone will leave the DA's office to start a career in law. Investigative reporting in San Diego resembles boar hunting on a hog farm.— April 16, 2013 10:30 a.m.
San Diego firms Apricus, Innovus tackle male and female sex problems
"If all the girls who attended the Yale Prom were laid end to end, I wouldn't be a bit surprised.". Dorothy Parker. I personally know nothing about women, except that some are lots of fun.— April 15, 2013 6:52 p.m.
San Diego firms Apricus, Innovus tackle male and female sex problems
Now we really want to read viewer's comment, in spite of it being non-profane.— April 15, 2013 11:29 a.m.

Nash and Parker worked at the *New Yorker* at the same time. I remember it as Parker, the internet says Nash. it's a Parkerism regardless, in theme and form. The snake oil remark is a lizardism, the snakes are close cousins after all.— April 12, 2013 10:27 p.m.
San Diego firms Apricus, Innovus tackle male and female sex problems
We should note that the snake oil salesmen of one hundred years ago actually had a alcoholic potion that might help a woman's love life. Today's snake oil salesmen just sell promises. Some attribute my quote to Ogden Nash, but if memory serves, the *New Yorker* gives it to Parker, in the above form.— April 12, 2013 1:39 p.m.
San Diego firms Apricus, Innovus tackle male and female sex problems
The Viagra ads should feature an unattractive older woman shrieking: "You married me for my daddy's money.". Pitch line; "Get Viagra or get a job.". Male sexual dysfunction is limited to married men, and other male sex workers, because other men have no obligation to perform, and therefore don't have a function to diss. Fact is, these are party drugs, they don't treat any true medical condition. Every charge leveled at illegal party drugs can be leveled at them, to some degree. For the females, a prominent and tireless researcher of the 1930's reports, 'Candy is dandy, but liquor works quicker.". Sadly for Dorothy Parker Pharmaceuticals, the patent on ethyl alcohol expired before she could profit from her research.— April 12, 2013 11:22 a.m.
