Diogenes, very few of these witnesses would be allowed in court, two or three maybe. The latest one would be a witness for the defense possibly, because she shows that Filner is easily misunderstood. and pours on the honey without any sexual intent. I would certainly take your bet with the evidence so far. Allred needs more to go to trial, that's why she keeps hyping Filner's deposition. She's fishing, and thinks Filner has something to hide. We all do, except for you Diogenes, who in the spirit of your ancient namesake, presumably lives naked in the streets.— August 16, 2013 5:31 p.m.

The women aren't lying, the media is when it claims these are all sexual harassment charges. This case is certainly unique. Remember, of the tens of thousands he has touched while taking pictures, very few are coming forward with complaints, and they report that he stayed within important boundaries, both in conversation and touch. The man is not unrestrained, local law enforcement and media are.— August 16, 2013 5:04 p.m.

The allegations pile up, but the gaps in evidence seem more striking by the week. There is no record of any sexual harassment claim before the media frenzy. There is no claim from outside the frenzy in Washington DC where Bob Filner worked for twenty years. There are no pictures to support claims, even though the alleged events, in nearly every case, occurred in public, and in some cases under constant video surveillance. Some of the allegations, the Marilyn impersonator's for instance, occurred while posing for pictures, yet those pictures, presumably taken down from office walls, aren't shown as proof of guilt. What's noteworthy in all accounts, is Filner's polite language, and the eroticised imaginations of those who heard him. When he refers to handcuffs, she doesn't think he's thinking about arresting one of the many crooks leeching on the City, but assumes he wants to party. When he offers to discuss a matter over dinner, they assume he's offering to trade favor for favor. After one is labeled a sexual predator, sex is the antecedent of all plausible pronouns. "Let's do that."...proposition for sex. "I'd like to buy it."...solicitation of prostitution. "I got eight hours last night.".....sexual bragging.— August 16, 2013 1:11 p.m.

After what we've seen, a lock out at City Hall seems possible. But like Allred's show today, it might be miscalculation. I don't think anyone really is thinking this through. The notion that Filner will run out of money for his defense and therefore fold seems odd, the City likely will have to cover those expenses, and lawyers will wait for payment. Also Filner's team might not believe that he needs to settle, perhaps they believe that others in the end will pay expenses and serious damages as well. The change of venue motion doesn't suggest a team concerned about money. The choice of Imperial County suggests plenty of fight after the old challenge; "I'll meet you in Hell first.".— August 15, 2013 10:50 p.m.

Filner's refusal to speak seems wiser every day. His accusers are becoming more unhinged. We see classic delusions of grandeur. Allred feels entitled to demand change of leadership in a city she doesn't reside. I hesitate to say anything about her latest client, but if she's the point of the spear to seize control of City Hall, she seems neither hard or sharp.— August 15, 2013 6:56 p.m.
