Allred wants council to nix deal with Filner
I have assumed on this blog that Filner was guilty of something, because he apologized, and I thought the civil suit would be settled first. But if he is completely innocent, or believes himself so, he might be so enraged by the suit that he wants to fight it to the bitter end, to the point of counter suing for damages, and if McCormack's case is as weak as Peggy Shannon's, he might win. Certainly Peggy Shannon is the poster child for malicious and frivolous lawsuits. If Filner is innocent, and I don't mean Bill Clinton innocent, it wouldn't be wrong for him to resign to fight and clear his name. I would sue to stop the Sheriff's hot line also. In the future there perhaps should be a line in the City charter for temporary absences in this type of situation, as well as for illnesses. If he is innocent, the job of defending himself is first priority. If he could expose the political forces attacking him, he might do more good for this City than he could as mayor.— August 22, 2013 4:23 p.m.

Maybe the nose knows better than the media. Gloria Allred obviously hasn't got the word that Filner will resign. She seems even more angry than before, if that's possible. The unholy alliance between herself, Goldsmith and T. Gloria seems shattered. She's urging the council to delay action on a resolution she claims no knowledge of. This just seems more and more puzzling. Filner might be resigning because he's tired of this, who could blame him? But he can't be resigning to force the City to pay for his defense, a Judge would do that eventually, without his resignation.— August 22, 2013 2:06 p.m.

Gloria Allred says the deal does not include her. She's still urging the Mayor to resign.— August 22, 2013 1:28 p.m.

It's hard to contradict news reports with lizard smell, but I noticed a lack of a big smile on Goldsmith's and Faulkner's face, as they announced the proposed settlement. Not exactly grim either. But one would expect glee.— August 22, 2013 12:31 p.m.

Some facts about 18th accuser, Dianne York
Dianne York was putting the moves on Filner, the photos prove it. We need more of these photos. Every one of these accusers took pictures with the Mayor I suspect, and if the horrors described really happened, they wouldn't be smiling arm in arm afterwards. In most cases, these pictures aren't presented with the accusation. Let's ask for the photos, each and every one.— August 22, 2013 9:02 a.m.

We shouldn't blame crazy people for being crazy. Blame the media and the lawyers who are using their crazy stories to keep the frenzy alive.— August 22, 2013 1:09 a.m.

Don't waste your time on MeReader's video. He's hallucinating. If the state or federal government was involved, i would consider that resignation was being seriously discussed. So long as Allred is there, they are likely discussing civil cases, and dollar amounts. The City Attorney and Council no doubt are still demanding resignation, but the real work is likely being done by Allred and Filner's attorneys. Filner must get something important to give up his job. A criminal conviction is the only thing that might frighten Filner into resigning, and the parties in mediation can't threaten him with that. Paying Filner City cash to resign would be improper I suspect, and if you boil it down, that's what Goldsmith's offer to pay his liabilities amounts to.— August 22, 2013 12:49 a.m.

Day four, not a single petitioner seen in PB yet, Recall supporters are either inept or they've given up. Mr'. Bauder reports that they've cut the pay to fifty cents a signature. I suspect that no one wants to bankroll the recall when everyone's so certain Filner will resign. Palamary might not inspire confidence also.— August 21, 2013 7:06 p.m.
