DeMaio's men's room masturbation went unreported (updated 8/26)
I hope I'm not misunderstood as condemning the gay lifestyle, when I say that straights will always find details of that lifestyle disgusting, to each their own. My point is that LGBT members should consistently avoid condemning adult sexuality, lest they end up getting caught with their pants down, like Mr.' DeMaio. In that spirit I defend his antics as foolish but not evil. He's a monster in public life, that's enough. Perhaps City hall needs special private rooms for such behavior. There seems to be a surplus of libido.— August 27, 2013 8:21 a.m.

Filner did not plead guilty, he was charged with nothing. He was put in a torture room, if you didn't notice.— August 26, 2013 7:46 p.m.
DeMaio's men's room masturbation went unreported (updated 8/26)
The allegation has more supporting evidence than any of the Filner claims. This proves hypocrisy more than anything. Every LGBT person has a past that the straight community would find repulsive. That repulsion after all, is what separates the straight from the bisexual. Members of the LGBT made a terrible mistake when they referred to Bob Filner as deviant, dirty, perverted, etc. Perhaps they did this because Gays and Lesbians find straight sex repulsive. They moved away from the direction we should go, which is increased tolerance for behavior we might find instinctively nauseating, but in fact is not harmful. Carl DeMaio's escapades certainly are repulsive. I hope it isn't the start of many lurid stories concerning our city leaders, but Pandora's box is open now. Most of the LGBT politicians are Democrats, and though I'm disappointed in most of them now, I don't really want their sex lives examined in detail. That goes for Republicans also. I wouldn't wish Bob Filner's treatment on my worst enemy.— August 26, 2013 7:36 p.m.

City will indemnify resigning Filner, with some hedges
The City Government responded to Filner's policy initiatives with personal attack, and is filled with members of the Tea Party, people incapable of sustained, consistent reasoning. In that way the City resembles DWB. The claim that Filner's actions were about power is a defence against the sexual harassment charge. He treated women differently than men in his official life, that's unlawful, he confessed to it. But his attackers used the sex card to destroy him. Ir was a fraud. His sweet talk was just sweet talk, calling it abuse of power is perverted. If he used his power to get sex, you could nail your boilerplate thinking on the events, he did not. The abuse of power is on the women's side. That cruel God, Cupid, put the man in their control, they destroyed him. Hard times teach us who our friends are. There will be happier days ahead.— August 25, 2013 2:23 p.m.

The City government and council are run by people like DWB. Anyone trying to reform would become frustrated. His staff could not handle both the City and Filner. In the confrontation that followed, Bob Filner made fatal political mistakes, but those opposed to him acted with complete depravity. His fiancee' for instance, no doubt Bob Filner was difficult company at times, no one can blame her for splitting with him. But her public statements condemning him, her shameless TV grandstanding, revolted anyone with a heart. The gang of four that confronted Filner, threatening resignation, may have endured shouting and abuse. Those four nobodies might have resigned quietly, and we might salute them for a principled stand. But in their pride and anger, they perpetrated a deranged act of destruction that hurt an entire city. Irene McCormack endured abuse, but her salacious claim against Filner is a horrific abuse of power far worse than anything he ever did. She knows that someone claiming sexual harassment must give explicit warning and a chance to correct to have a valid claim. But she kept her allegations hidden until she completely destroyed him with them. Grievance settled with an atrocity. I'm reluctant to use the language of professional writers like DWB, but the simple truth is, "playing grab ass with women" is a necessary part of the human reproductive process, completely normal and natural. Plainly he got too close to people he should never have trusted. Sometimes perhaps, he deceived himself, but powerful men have favors to grant, and many deceive deliberately for gain. He was a fool for love, poets find that forgivable. Professionals condemn and laugh, but love is for foolish amateurs. Yes you can, but it's not a secret AKA, people call me Psycho or Lizard. It helps on the internet to have a distinctive handle. If someone doesn't want to be known by their real name that's OK too. Whether amateur or professional, whatever the background, idea should be met with idea, not with personal attack. I would cease telling the world the identities of our bloggers, especially the ladies. I don't fault anyone for being cautious.— August 24, 2013 7:07 p.m.

Todd Gloria, Jan Goldsmith and Lorie Zapf deserved more insult than he ever gave them, and if being a bully was reason to remove, those three would be gone. Thanks DWB for confessing what you previously denied, that this had nothing to do with sex, and everything to do do with the spite of the proud and angry.— August 24, 2013 6:08 p.m.

Filner was proud, yes, but who appointed those bureaucrats judge and jury? Filner's downfall was caused by back stabs. He's accused of getting too close to people who weren't friendly. Obviously that's true, but not a crime in itself. They must be clearly unfriendly to make it unlawful. I believe Filner when he says he didn't know he offended. His mistake is not knowing who his enemies are.— August 24, 2013 3:38 p.m.
