Sanders, Issa pump H-1B program
The US should grab the best talent, but this special program is exactly the wrong way to do this. We should offer more regular green cards if we need more engineers. When an engineer returns home on one of these H!B visas they take the essential knowledge for a foreign technology start up with them. Qualcomm wants to give it's foreign competitors the basic tool to drive themselves out of business, the trained team of engineers. The US should do everything possible to keep engineers here, that includes not cheating them out of wages by weird and shortsighted schemes like H!B.— October 3, 2013 1:32 p.m.
Progressive trumps retrogressive
Psycholizard is my stage name, I play rock and roll, I have a degree in Music History. I also write music in more academic styles. One can click the Icon at the left to find my legal name. I have some credentials, as well as street cred, I show them at your request. As for my statements, I thought them self evident, Tallis didn't spring out of nowhere, his style is complex elaboration of earlier styles, I'm still puzzled by why anyone would find him the beginning of anything, most find him more of a dead end. As for Walton, if they thought him old fashioned seventy years ago, don't disrespect their opinion. If you love these fine composers, I respect your opinion, but never imply that others don't exist. As you will find elsewhere in the reader blogs, I defend those I believe maligned.— September 30, 2013 5:49 p.m.
Coastal Commission staff says "No" on convention center expansion
I learned of the Petco real estate swindle in your columns. The first Charger scheme included skyscraper condos on the present site, that supposedly would pay for everything. Since then every scheme has tearing down our Stadium and building condos as part of the plan, *even when building in Oceanside*.— September 30, 2013 4:46 p.m.

We should look at the real estate deals planned to find where Spanos intends to make money. The present Stadium Site will likely be sold to Spanos, as well as juicy parcels downtown condemned by eminent domain. The taxes on the plundered parcels will be included as the Spanos contribution. I don't think they've detailed their proposals, but if they follow the Petco scheme, that's what they intend.— September 29, 2013 7:33 p.m.
Bax versus Purcell
The trouble with classifying Pre-Romantic composers by nationality is that they themselves would resent it. They really believed in an ideal style, an international style, that mostly followed the Italian or the French. Anything else was regarded as provincial, that's why so many composers visited Italy, and why Opera in Britain so often was sung in Italian, by imported singers.— September 28, 2013 12:39 a.m.

We must keep our eyes on the other cards in the game of three card monte that is StadiumCon. The Spanos family wants to develop the land under the present Stadium. The fact it is a toxic waste site seems to be ignored, but developed it might get a price that would pay for StadiumCon, at least that's what was suggested in one of the earlier proposals. What is done with the Stadium site should be discussed along with the proposed downtown atrocity, there is a Mission Valley atrocity planned as well. There's nothing seriously wrong with the current Stadium.— September 27, 2013 11:50 p.m.
Ronald Reagan statue set on fire in Temecula
That hat might be a great place for birdseed.— September 27, 2013 11:07 p.m.
Ronald Reagan statue set on fire in Temecula
The arsonist might have improved the statue, which sounds dreadful as described. The pigeons express my opinion of statues of "great" men, and Ronald Reagan.— September 27, 2013 4:33 p.m.
Sex scandals that preceded Bob Filner
The statements by Mike Aguirre and Bruce Coons in the UT were shockingly weak. How can we we persuade these decent men to aim their cannons at the towers of greed and fire away. They are outsiders, they must establish the depravity of the insiders, then the enormity of the danger, then the proposed reforms. If they can't show that the insiders are causing the problems, profiting from the problems, that insiders are the problem, then no one has any reason to turn to outsiders.— September 20, 2013 7:35 p.m.
Bax versus Purcell
You really should avoid these blanket statements, many call Handel a British composer, in residence and influence he was as British as Lully was French. Categorizing Western music by nationality might be a poor idea to start with, notation made styles jump borders with the mails. If you're searching for something truly British. you can't ignore Gay's *Beggar's Opera*, a bigger hit today than *Dido* perhaps, and unlike *Dido*, not essentially Italian in style.— September 20, 2013 4:46 p.m.
