Bruce Henderson sues City over his firing
Attorneys are tasked with settling arguments, Bruce Henderson has a reputation for starting them. Sometimes he's right, but he's always a righteous jackass. I would be amazed the City hired him, except that City Government is largely a pack of donkeys carrying water for the big developers. His complaint seems to say that he was fired for being a good old boy. "Good" always meant White of course. This world run by laughably inept old White men, hardly lacks for blowhard absurdity, but a lawyer suing his client for dismissing him is special. If I thought my lawyer might sue me for anything other than failure to pay my bill, I certainly would dismiss him.— April 24, 2018 10:33 a.m.
Papa Doug won’t get Bahamas job
As I remember from J. K. Galbraith, Joe Kennedy heard an attendant discussing stock fluctuations, and reflected, "When the man shining my shoes knows more about my stock price than I do, and I'm on the board, it's time to get out of the market.".— April 14, 2018 4:04 p.m.
Questions raised over police response to Chicano Park protests
Let's be clear, Chicano Park is under an overpass to a freeway built under protest through a predominantly Latino community. The Park sits on land once occupied by homes condemned and bulldozed for that freeway. It's consolation for wholesale destruction. The Murals are an attempt to stop graffiti, and are authentic expression, if some may disagree with the message. Those who come from elsewhere, or were born yesterday, might not understand the compromise that is Chicano Park. Educate yourself before screaming ignorance.— March 28, 2018 4:17 p.m.
Yanni got $102,000 for a classic Porsche
I thought he was spelled Yawny.— March 21, 2018 5:28 p.m.
Airbnb forcing you out?
50 years ago, there were real estate firms that would handle vacation rentals, especially in Mission Beach. The rent was estimated at a summer week for the winter monthly rate. There were complaints. Only the names and dates change, not the details.— March 8, 2018 1:44 p.m.
Mexican stole American's identity 37 years ago
I suspect the Government will spend more money convicting and incarcerating this perp than he swindled, in this scheme at least. Seems like the Feds cast their nets into the oceans of government fraud and captured a minnow. The identity theft seems less dangerous than the identity politics some would make of it. When we compare this to Wall Street Fraud, where no one goes to jail no matter how much is stolen, it's hard to argue for tough sentencing, but some will.— March 3, 2018 1:01 p.m.
Broadcom makes another Qualcomm offer
Bitcoin seems a telling symptom of a broader disease, investment unhinged from profitability or the underlying assets of the firms that hire the money. I've spent years arguing that price to earnings will soon return to normal levels, and been wrong. Now I just point out that stock prices are backed solely by the honesty and intelligence of the board and management of public companies. Trump is a sort of animal you find in that jungle, and he's not alone. Buyer beware.— February 6, 2018 2:05 p.m.
Broadcom makes another Qualcomm offer
We should stop examining fundamentals for explanation, and instead look at histories of mass delusions, and speculative frenzies. The Bitcoin might end up as famous as the 17th century tulip bulb, after all, those tulip bulbs were rare and beautiful, and unlike the Bitcoin, actually existed. We may win a Millennial Prize for speculative stupidity. We'll see.— February 5, 2018 8:18 p.m.
SD City College instructors plan protest
The libido might decline, but the morals won't change. But the morals aren't the problem, It's the confusion.— February 2, 2018 7:37 p.m.
SD City College instructors plan protest
Interesting that so many who ruined Filner for so little, forgive Trump for so much. Moral crusades are only for saints and hypocrites. Better to sue. I hope they can settle this case without hysteria, but from the antic posturings this blog has provoked, this might get big.— January 31, 2018 1:04 p.m.
