It’s Hard to Change Direction When You Are Falling Off A Cliff
A true love story all the way around. That car is drop-dead gorgeous, Joe!! It was cool to go to high school in the late '70s and early '80s. We all drove '60s era cars. I briefly had a '63 Valiant. Three on the tree!!— February 16, 2011 10:17 a.m.
Many Jobs Are More Dangerous Than Police, Firefighting
Your blog and column have gone a long way toward changing my mind about this. And surfpuppy. I have to share with you my experience this weekend. I was hiking Cowles Mountain Saturday and the rescue helicopter came - a woman had slipped, fallen and injured herself. They lowered a rescue worker (we watched and I took a photo) and we proceeded down the mountain. Guess what greeted us at the base? FIVE rescue vehicles, including one fire truck, and no less than fifteen members of the San Diego Fire Department. This on top of the chopper - for a broken ankle!! I took a photo of them as well, just standing around. Today I read that San Diego needs to add ten new fire stations.— February 15, 2011 3:01 p.m.
Bridgepoint: Bad for Students, Good for Gamblers?
"On July 1, new regulations are scheduled to go into effect. One would bar schools from paying recruiters according to how many students they enroll" - maybe when this practice ceases, Bridgepoint will be forced to hire their drop-outs. Reminds me of the mortgage industry.— February 11, 2011 7:59 a.m.

No Turkey Hunt at William Heise Regional Park in Julian
No. I do believe that they think the majority of voters endorse hunting and therefore are protecting their asses while still taking a stand against this, which is the height of hypocrisy. I am with you, thrill. You can still "buy" votes without the outright exchange of campaign contributions. This is why I have no respect for most politicians.— February 11, 2011 7:24 a.m.
Play the King to Sleep
Nan, I've always found chamber music to be not just rousing, but arousing!! Great music to cook to.— February 10, 2011 6:45 p.m.
No Turkey Hunt at William Heise Regional Park in Julian
Jim Conrad of the San Diego County Fish and Wildlife Advisory Commission argued "hunting is ethical, wholesome, and mainstream America." This should read "hunting is immoral, male-dominated, and back-woods America." They just want the revenue generated by issuing hunting licenses, not to mention the mutual support by these groups for the politicians that are in favor of this. It's disgusting that animals have to die at the hands of children so that politicians can generate financial support come voting time and assist these groups in furthering their agenda, which is to open public park land for ADULT hunters. This is a park. A park is a sanctuary for people, plants and ANIMALS. Hunting is NOT welcome here.— February 10, 2011 1:02 p.m.

They are promoting it as teaching the children to be stewards of nature. By killing. When will these people ever stop? They are using the old tact of "well, the turkeys will over-populate and starve". I say "let 'em". It's not our place to control the turkey population on county park land by use of gunforce. And to put it in the hands of kids to try to legitimize it!! As an aside, the picture in the paper of the turkeys showed happy, fat, uncrowded turkeys just minding their own business. If hunters want to use county land to "sharpen their skills" maybe they can practice on each other.— February 10, 2011 12:48 p.m.
No Turkey Hunt at William Heise Regional Park in Julian
I hope this does not happen. I wrote a letter to the San Diego Union Tribune opposing this and they published it in the Sports section on February 3rd. This is just an opportunity for hunters to try to open up county park land for hunting - for them. To use children to further their agenda is horrific.— February 10, 2011 11:13 a.m.
Laura Roppé Wants to Smell George Clooney
I loved it!! I really love the part about never having to work a desk job :D Robert Downey Jr. has been a MAJOR crush since Less Than Zero. I never lost faith in him...he is just too cute!— February 10, 2011 10:54 a.m.
