Drugstore booze permit still in limbo

And people are still complaining on social media how they don't want another place selling alcohol. All I can tell them is...YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE! This is why it's muy importante to attend city council, planning board meetings, etc...so you have have your say! Does no good to complain about it once it's a fait accompli.

We're targeting bad behavior

Correction in my story. Denny Knox is the Executive Director of the OB Mainstreet Association, not President. Also, Julie Klein, President of the Merchant Crime Prevention Group was very instrumental in getting the merchants to sign on to this program, but that was omitted from the story.

Your pearl must be jammed. I don't drive around looking for tragedies, I was out running errands and came upon this when they had Sports Arena Blvd, blocked off. This is how I've found most of the over 70 neighborhood news stories I've written. I keep my eyes and ears open like all good reporters do. Bogus? What the hell are you even talking about??

Not all food adventures end well

Born in New York, raised in Los Angeles, so I've had some pretty damn good Chinese food over the years. You're right, not much of it here in SD. I worked in Kearny Mesa for 3 yrs and still didn't find anything mind blowing. Golden City isn't bad on Kearny Villa Road. But that's the closest I've come to anything decent in the Szechuan realm. Have you reviewed that place yet? If so, would like to know what you thought. They have some very authentic dishes that were too weird even for my adventurous palate. And probably one of the biggest menu selections I've seen anywhere. Also a good sign? LOTS of Asians eating there. Hate to admit it, but I too would pick PF Changs over most places here. At least I've never been disappointed in what I've ordered there.

Shelter Island's other fish sandwich

Once I discovered Mitch's, I never went back to Point Loma Seafoods. And after giving PLS a few tries, I wasn't going to go back anyway. Will never understand why so many rave about that place. Mitch's has them beat by a mile. And IMHO, has probably the BEST clam chowder I've had anywhere! LOVE their seafood stew, their calamari tacos ,the crab cake sammie. and all their food really .Never had a bad dish there.

Nati’s: Ground zero for ground beef tacos

I live right behind Nati's and lived in OB for over 5 yrs now and have never eaten there. Haven't heard many good things about that place. And your review now seals it for me. Ground beef tacos....really? I could go to Taco Bell for that kind of abuse and where the cheese tastes like grated plastic. Ok, TB wouldn't have the cool atmosphere that Nati's may have, but I'll leave that to the AZ tourists and hop over to Ortegas on Newport, or better yet, whatever they're calling Oscar's Mexican Seafood these days (has changed names 3 times in the year and a half it's been open) .across from South Beach Bar and Grill on Newport. They have killer tacos of the fresh fish kind.

Cravory's permanent location open in Point Loma

I couldn't agree with you or Judi more! They have been at the OB Farmer's Market for a couple of years now. Once I tried them, I knew I would never pay $2 for one of their cookies again. Not terrible, just not worth the dough....HA! I made a funny. Love to hear what you think about Embargo Grill next door to the Cravory.

Carlsbad mall security banishes steampunk group

The opening statement in the article of 40 people is MY mistake. I wrote the article and even though it said over 40 had responded on the invite, I now see there weren't that many at the actual event. It certainly has no bearing whatsoever on the truthful details in the rest of the story. I think the comments on here bear witness to the fact that this all happened, the group was not rude in any way, and mall security escorted them out and the police were there waiting for them. There are no other untruths in this story.
