Maybe new
U-T
management will help
This was left out of the story and wanted to add it here.... Steve O, who runs one of the more popular social media groups pertaining to OB on Facebook, thinks that, “It would be great if the U-T would give us the choice to opt in or out of having the circulars delivered to a residence.” Then there is the other side of this story. Andrea Stratton is a local who teaches couponing classes. She said, “There are thousands of people all over San Diego that like to cut out coupons and are talking about starting a petition to keep the circular.” She also told me that, “I have to constantly open new coupon classes because they fill up so quickly and there is a shit load of coupon groups on Facebook based in San Diego.” In following the discussions on the Facebook groups, there is speculation from several individuals that the U-T will probably not even show up at the town council meeting.

Shopping like a foodie: Heart & Trotter
First tasted their meats at a private BBQ and met them. Loved it enough to contribute towards their public funding site, which partially got the store open. Nicest guys, and love their meat....as funny as that may sound!

New England lobster rolls on the left coast
You sir, have excellent taste. This is my fave lobster roll on the left coast. They put just that correct dab of mayo in it and I love the the lemony spice on the bread, so delish. Spend another $5 and get extra lobster meat on it...SO worth it! Barbarella of the Reader just reviewed this place a month or two ago and her husband says it's the best he's had too.

Taste the East at Lobster West
SUPER DUPER YAY on the review of my most favorite Lobster Roll in So Cal!! I also agree that is the best I have tried anywhere and literally, puts others to shame. The price point is also fantastic considering how much I've been charged at other establishments and not received anything nearly as good. Case in point, is Studio Diner in Kearny Mesa which charges well over $20 for theirs. And then, to find THE best lobster bisque here too...well, it was def a happy dance day! I don't know anyone else that puts actual chunks of lobster in their bisque, which is the opposite of what a bisque is supposed to contain....which is usually nothing! Owners Kim, and her brother Chad, really seem to know how to make it all work. Not to mention that she has the lobsters flown in fresh all week long from Maine. As far as the cheese/seafood sammie that you didn't like...well, IMHO I was never a fan of putting cheese and seafood together, so I have never tried that one. Too bad you're not a fan of their classic lobstah roll...it's the best in the (Lobster) West!

Can't you smell that smell?
My story was better, but you beat me to it Jimi! At approximately 7:20 am on November 4, I was awoken by multiple fire engines and police cars with sirens wailing away. I live right down the street from the source of the commotion. A 4 engine alarm was sounded for a ruptured gas line at the as-yet-unfinished beachfront condominiums on Saratoga and Abbott in Ocean Beach. I went down towards the source of all the attention and spoke with SDFD Captain Albert Apreciado and he told me, "A landscaping crew was using a bob cat and the shovel went in a little too far and ruptured a 2 inch gas line. Only SDGE can repair that and 911 was activated." He further stated that, "4 engines and a truck were called out, but we quickly sent two of the engines back and blocked off the streets here, in case of evacuation. When I asked if there was ever a danger of evacuation, he said, "No, never, there was no threat of evacuation. SDGE has stopped it and they will be here another hour or two repairing it." I saw all the construction workers standing on the corner and I asked one them named Pablo if they were evacuated and he said yes. "At lease we're getting paid while we we're standing around waiting to go back to work," he said.

Ups, downs, views at the Lighthouse
You've got to go back just for Happy Hour Barbarella. Several great food and drink choices, hardly any other people there and again, that AWESOME view!

Hateful Harriet on the Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub
Wow, really surprised to see no defense amongst their supporters. Thought there would at least be some retort from someone at their establishment defending or promising to truly elevate their menu items. You know, like biz owners do when they see those Yelp reviews that you're always claiming the reviewers don't know what the hell they're talking about? Hey Ian. I do love reading your reviews, respect plus coming your way from me. But just want to let you know not ALL Yelpers are clueless. I'm one of those Elite Yelpers (we get parties thrown for us each month at some establishment) who actually knows what the hell I'm talking about. I'm a Kansas City Certifed BBQ Judge and I was just asked to judge at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas in Nov. Yeah, I agree a LOT of Yelpers should shut their pie holes, or at least read a lot of pro reviews and get educated, but again, please realize that Elite Yelpers (there's a little Elite badge next to our pics so you can tell us apart) try to pen much more thoughtful and considerate reviews for the public. Btw, I do not work for Yelp, we're just freelancers that don't get paid. And I also write for the Reader...just not food, although I would love to!
— September 16, 2014 9:25 a.m.
Carlsbad's low-risk seafood spot
How gross that you equate "My tacos arrived looking OB style — topped by grated cheese, pico, cabbage and white sauce" with OB. That's South Beach Bar and Grill's tacos...which has frozen fish on it and all that gloppy white sauce (what IS that shiz?!) and WAY too much cabbage on it. I will never understand why those tacos are so damn popular, when right across the street is Mikes Taco Club. All fresh fish and *LOTS* of it on each taco. And not drowning in any sauce you don't put on yourself. And when someone complains about it costing $5 a taco, well, I just tell them it's fresh and has enough meat in there for two tacos anywhere else!
— September 13, 2014 3:11 p.m.
Man on fire
Wow, you seem to actually know a bit about me PJ. Yes, I proudly belong to the OB Woman's Club, but if you TRULY knew what goes on there, you would know that it is NOT a bunch of old ladies, we have plenty of women in their 20's and 30's who proudly believe in doing something for their community and giving back, as that club has done for 90 yrs now. Why don't you try coming to our meetings, meet me and then maybe you'll let go of this uncalled for and vindictive rant you seem to be on.. Brown nosing?? Hardly. I'm a stringer, not a staff member, so I do NOT work in the offices of the Reader and do not deal with bosses/editors in any face to face manner. I sent in a story 2 yrs ago and it just took off from there. Just had my first cover story recently. Oooh, jeez, sorry...giving props to myself again, lol. Since you seem to hell bent on putting me down for absolutely no reason at all....why don't YOU try reporting a story in the manner you seem to be sure that I'm not doing it in. After all, the Reader will accept stories from anyone....as long as they are well written. Thanks for speaking up Jay. Trolls will be trolls, won't they?

OB Sushi Sushi hooks Ed Ed Bed Bed
Taika Sushi a few doors down....WAY better.— June 5, 2015 10:33 a.m.
Maybe new U-T management will help
This was left out of the story and wanted to add it here.... Steve O, who runs one of the more popular social media groups pertaining to OB on Facebook, thinks that, “It would be great if the U-T would give us the choice to opt in or out of having the circulars delivered to a residence.” Then there is the other side of this story. Andrea Stratton is a local who teaches couponing classes. She said, “There are thousands of people all over San Diego that like to cut out coupons and are talking about starting a petition to keep the circular.” She also told me that, “I have to constantly open new coupon classes because they fill up so quickly and there is a shit load of coupon groups on Facebook based in San Diego.” In following the discussions on the Facebook groups, there is speculation from several individuals that the U-T will probably not even show up at the town council meeting.— May 26, 2015 8:57 a.m.
Shopping like a foodie: Heart & Trotter
First tasted their meats at a private BBQ and met them. Loved it enough to contribute towards their public funding site, which partially got the store open. Nicest guys, and love their meat....as funny as that may sound!— April 2, 2015 5:48 p.m.
Barbarella of the Reader just reviewed this place a month or two ago and her husband says it's the best he's had too.— March 28, 2015 4:52 p.m.
Too bad you're not a fan of their classic lobstah roll...it's the best in the (Lobster) West!— January 29, 2015 5:49 p.m.
"At lease we're getting paid while we we're standing around waiting to go back to work," he said. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/n…— November 5, 2014 9:43 a.m.
Ups, downs, views at the Lighthouse
You've got to go back just for Happy Hour Barbarella. Several great food and drink choices, hardly any other people there and again, that AWESOME view!— September 26, 2014 1:41 p.m.
And I also write for the Reader...just not food, although I would love to!— September 16, 2014 9:25 a.m.
And when someone complains about it costing $5 a taco, well, I just tell them it's fresh and has enough meat in there for two tacos anywhere else!— September 13, 2014 3:11 p.m.
Trolls will be trolls, won't they?— August 2, 2014 6:29 p.m.
