Ocean Beach ashcans cut down on cigarette litter

Great article Tony. I'm SO bummed about the butts on the beach. Yes, it is the one thing we've found the most of during the beach clean ups. Disgusting habit and there are smokers who are considerate, but why are they so few and far between? In my mind, I think they don't care enough about their health to stop smoking, so maybe they have an attitude of not caring about polluting the earth too?? Just a thought.......

****OPERATION BLUE TSUNAMI!!!**** Police crackdowns with over 15 police cars showing up unannounced. Here is a comment by SDPD Officer David Surwillo from the OB Rag web site. OBT coming to a neighborhood near you some time soon! "Operation Blue Tsunami is when we direct all officers within the division to “flood” an area looking for law enforcement issues which need to be addressed. It can mean police contact due to a dog off leash to using narcotics in public and can result in a citation to an arrest. It does not target one segment of the population, so everyone is free to be contacted. We shall be conducting these operations throughout the division, in all of the community’s within the division, at different times and on different days. There is no additional costs, we are not bringing in officers for overtime, just focusing all of them into one area at once. This is because of outcry from the citizens due to crimes such as sexual assaults to public narcotic use. In this operation we did not use the trailer since the operation is only about an hour long and focuses on officers driving and walking the targeted area"

Homeless people drawn to former Apple Tree store in Ocean Beach

Right on. Been noticing them camping out there on the outside of the fence ever since it closed down. Have noticed drug dealing and more since then too. Not to mention, we have lost many parking spaces for the public since the lot is closed. I have no problem calling and complaining about this. This is part of cleaning up OB!

I was invited to this party specifically to write about it in the Reader, but was going to interview Mouse this week in person first. But "Jimi Olsen" beat me to it?? Lois Lane here...where are you "Jimi?" Or better yet, WHO are you Jimi?! You took almost the exact same pics I did too! You really left out all the important things though that Mouse accomplished in life, as most people are not going to know who he was/is. Hmmm...I think I see another article coming up in a more surf-like magazine.......
