Encinitas cyclist run over by North County Transit bus at Camp Pendleton
In other words, the bus driver should be tried and convicted for murder. If it was any other kind of murder, the killer would already be in prison for life. But in our system of "justice", people who murder cyclists are not punished.— November 15, 2014 10:51 a.m.
Congressman Peters and the dark arts
Poor Jeff Light. Every day he works for Manchester, he sells another piece of his soul.— November 15, 2014 10:47 a.m.
In venue dispute, Rock Church insists that attendees at services aren't "going to church."
This is the same church that is the biggest traffic nightmare in Point Loma, every single Sunday, right? What are the traffic issues with their proposed use in El Cajon, and what are they proposing to do to keep traffic flowing quickly and to provide enough parking for their services?— October 3, 2014 11:46 a.m.
Julie Harper not guilty of first-degree murder
Perhaps it was premature to call prosecutor Watanabe "ultra-competent", given the failure to get any conviction at all from this jury. And the jury obviously didn't show a lot of smarts or diligence. The judge deserves raspberries, too, for allowing the defendant's father to coach her testimony from the front row of the gallery. Good judges don't allow stuff like that to happen. Bad show all around. None of them should be proud of themselves.— October 2, 2014 9:47 a.m.
Who will rule Mayor Faulconer?
It seems we have a Hobson's choice between unaccountable nonprofit media organizations and unaccountable for-profit media organizations.— September 24, 2014 10:24 p.m.
San Diego stadium, convention center lies you will hear
The Chargers have very little leverage, but the mayor and his backers will try and convince us that the Chargers have a lot of leverage. The Chargers have no place to go. LA doesn't have a new stadium, Spanos doesn't have the money to build one there, and he can't move there without NFL approval which won't happen without a new LA stadium. The best option for the Chargers is building a new stadium in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot and then tearing down the old stadium to restore the parking. That's what was done in Denver. Doug Manchester has said himself that it could be done there. Manchester's own developer proposed a plan for doing it.— September 24, 2014 10:13 p.m.
A derringer for my daughter
It's been reported that Jason's parents have custody of the children.— September 22, 2014 1:25 p.m.
Pistol-packing housewife
None of the evidence made public to date is consistent with the kind of violent life-threatening physical struggle that would be required to legally call this killing "self defense". The defendant's conduct after the killing -- barring the door, lying about what happened, hiding the weapon so well that it hasn't even been found yet, burying the body under blankets and clothes in the bedroom, not calling 911 after the shooting, stashing the cash and passports, not notifying police to check the house until long after the victim was surely dead from the gunshot wound -- all of those facts have already been made public. Those facts are more consistent with someone who shot the victim and wanted the victim to stay undiscovered until after he was dead, instead of being saved by medical treatment. It is going to be challenging for the defendant and her attorney to square all of that away, whether they are crafty or competent or whatever.— September 21, 2014 1:04 a.m.
U-T San Diego for sale again?
Looks to me as if the deal here is to give Manchester the best possible financial and tax situation he can get while he gets out from under the U-T, while letting him keep the real estate. It's as if Burnham has hatched this idea as a favor to Manchester.— September 21, 2014 12:50 a.m.
Pistol-packing housewife
The truth is almost certainly that they grew to hate each other. Like what happens in countless other marriages that, thankfully, end in divorce and not homicide. When she's on the stand, she better become the best actress in the history of ever, or else her decision to go to trial instead of plea bargain will look foolish.— September 15, 2014 6:20 p.m.
