Never mind Bullock’s — Target is the future of dying malls
Nordstrom won't take space in the existing Carlsbad mall. Probably they don't want their brand associated with an outdated mall whose stores have either gone out of business or are on the verge of doing so. Which may also be the reason they left Horton Plaza.— July 27, 2016 5:59 p.m.
Amidst Jacobs family crack-ups, can charity prevail?
That's a very thin excuse for what amounts to the San Diego Reader version of a National Enquirer item.— July 15, 2016 3:17 p.m.
Amidst Jacobs family crack-ups, can charity prevail?
How about we stick to disputing Irwin Jacobs' misguided Balboa Park scheme on the merits (which is easy enough to do), rather than gossip-mongering about the divorces of his kids while pretending that they are somehow relevant to Balboa Park?— July 15, 2016 10:34 a.m.
Protesters warm up to tear down Cabrillo Bridge plan
Good ideas, except that building a trolley line out to there would be very expensive and using available money to fix deteriorating Balboa Park buildings should be the highest priority. Use busses, shuttles, etc. instead. And definitely charge for parking, not only for the revenue but also to incentivize park users to use the busses and shuttles or to carpool to the park.— July 3, 2016 4:03 p.m.
Can Lincoln Club destroy Chargers' ballot hopes?
Yup, the conservative power-brokers are going to crush Spanos. Chargers might as well start taking season ticket deposits for their first season in L.A.— June 1, 2016 12:10 p.m.
Governor lobbied Ballast Point to choose Roanoke Valley
When you build a second or third large brewery on the other side of the country just to crank out larger quantities and save on shipping costs, then you are no longer selling craft beer; you are instead selling a brand.— May 29, 2016 8:03 p.m.
Almost all shopped out
Update, if anyone cares: The "movie theater that has been dark for at least two decades" still hasn't been torn down, as of today, May 25. Neither have any of the other long-unused buildings in that dilapidated shopping center.— May 25, 2016 11:31 p.m.
At times it was like shared music, at times like a skin graft or a root canal
They should have built a large parking garage on the zoo's main parking lot. That would be the best way, by far, to accommodate mass influxes of cars for Balboa Park events. But I suspect that won't ever happen because of turf wars and ego battles among bureaucrats.— May 25, 2016 11:28 p.m.
San Diego's welfare plan for hotel owners
In other words, the gist of the opposition of the giant-hotel owners to the "convadium" is that they want all those tax dollars to benefit them more directly by going into a convention center that is on their hotels' doorstep rather than a few blocks away.— April 27, 2016 8:58 a.m.
The Jacobs-Faulconer dance
Yeah, small sums of money for Faulconer. Just a recognition that he's going to win another term, and Qualcomm will have to deal with him being mayor for four more years, so might as well play nice and make some token contributions.— April 22, 2016 10:44 a.m.
