Water and the mother’s milk of politics
Forget it, Jake, it's Chinatown.— March 12, 2014 11:04 a.m.
Hotel downsizes for financial reasons
Is the implication that Marriott favored the Broadway/North Harbor location and chose that developer/franchisor over the one at the Ash Street location?— March 5, 2014 1:21 p.m.
Recent lawsuit raises questions about libelous Yelping
It's true that Yelpers are subject to the same libel laws as anyone else, and that they should be careful to limit negative comments to their opinions ("I think Restaurant X's food and service are both terrible") and avoid statements of "fact" that are provably false ("Restaurant X's burgers contain no beef and are made from the rats that live in the restaurant's kitchen"). But, let's be honest here. Restaurants are not suing because they are passionately dedicated to the truth. They are suing Yelpers because they want to intimidate restaurant patrons so that they don't post negative reviews, ever.— March 2, 2014 12:41 p.m.
San Diego considered floating stadium 50 years ago
I like Mission Bay, and I enjoy cycling around the Bay and on Fiesta Island -- but the current state of Mission Bay is far from its original condition. I hope it stays nearly as is, but it's not the "natural state".— March 2, 2014 12:33 p.m.
Hotel business slumps in January
"Hotel guru Jerry Morrison blames ... the effect of the sequester for San Diego's anemic figures". So, the conservative, anti-government hoteliers make less money when the conservative politicians they send to Washington force deep cuts in federal spending. Hmmmm....— March 2, 2014 12:27 p.m.
Study determines food-truck regulations insensible
In other words: The proposed food-truck regulations serve no purpose other than making it more difficult and more costly for food-truck operators; the only point of the regulations is that operators of brick-and-mortar restaurants want to increase the burdens on their food-truck competitors. We already knew that, though.— February 27, 2014 1:49 p.m.
Murder trial delayed for Carlsbad housewife
Is this a typo? "Julie Harper bailed out a month after she was taken into custody, posting $2 million bond in September 2012." -- She was bailed out in September 2013, which is more than a year after August 2012, when she was taken into custody and bail was set.— February 25, 2014 4:01 p.m.
UT-TV goes dark on cable
You may also remember that former U-T sportswriter Tim Sullivan compared John Lynch to Citizen Kane when Lynch was managing radio stations in San Diego. That column is still on the U-T website: http://www.utsandiego.com/sports/sullivan/2006051…— February 20, 2014 9:52 p.m.
UT-TV goes dark on cable
That's the only U-T product that "reaches" most residents of San Diego County. Because of that nuisance, maybe the U-T slogan should be "San Diego's foremost litterer"?— February 20, 2014 9:45 p.m.
Airport cabbies Uber angry
Key point from this article: *"It’s much less expensive to use your own vehicle than to pay the rent that cabbies pay on their cabs, which can be around $450 a week".* Wake up, cab drivers. You are being robbed by the taxi companies. $450 a week to rent the cab you drive? That's $450 every week of the year that could be going into your own pocket instead.— February 19, 2014 10:21 p.m.
