neighborhoods/la-mesa -- La Mesa
**Catalytic Converter Thefts:** During the past month, the La Mesa Police Department received several reports of catalytic converter thefts occurring within the city. Here's the info from the LMPD weekly bulletin: "A catalytic converter is part of a vehicle's exhaust system and contains small amounts of precious metal. Thieves remove the part by crawling under high-profile vehicles and cutting off or removing the bolts. The catalytic converter is later recycled for cash. "In La Mesa, thieves are predominantly targeting 1990s Toyota pick-ups, Tacomas, and 4Runners. Thefts are occurring overnight when the vehicles are parked in driveways and on the street. To prevent catalytic converter thefts, park in a secured garage whenever possible. If you must park outside, ensure lighting is sufficient to illuminate your vehicle. Have your license plate number engraved on the part to aid in identification. A mechanic can also weld additional metal to the converter, attaching it to the vehicle, and making it more difficult for thieves to remove it. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood such as someone crawling or peering under parked cars, call the La Mesa Police immediately at 667-1400. For crimes in progress, call 911."

**Assault with a Knife in La Mesa:** Here's the Nixle update sent at 10:33 p.m. "At approximately 7:40 p.m., La Mesa Police received a 911 call of a stabbing that just occurred in the 7400 block of Colony Drive. A witness reported the suspect cut the victim’s face with a knife and fled the scene westbound through the residential complex. Officers located the victim on the ground with a laceration to his nose and face. The 50-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with wounds that were not life-threatening. Officers searched the area with assistance from San Diego Sheriff’s helicopter ASTREA and El Cajon Police Department canine units, but were unable to locate the suspect. "The suspect is described as a white male adult in his 40s or 50s, between 5' 4" and 5' 6" tall, approximately 160 pounds, with “salt and pepper” hair. He was wearing a t-shirt and brown shorts, and was carrying a large black trash bag when he fled the scene. "Anyone with information is encouraged to call LMPD: 463-6611 or to contact Crime Stoppers’ anonymous toll-free tip line (888) 580-TIPS or or
www.sdcrimestoppers.com

neighborhoods/solana-beach -- Solana Beach
Ken, When I rode the free bus from the Solana station to the fair, the driver said those squares are for bicyclists. Some of us passengers were doubtful, but a male passenger said that cyclists ride in packs and this helped them do that. It still didn't seem to make sense; I'll watch this page to see what others say.

**Celebrate 7-Eleven Day:** Thursday is July 11, and it's also 7-Eleven Day. That means you can get a free Slurpee at participating 7-Eleven stores. The giveaway is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thanks to Pam from Kaiser for this information; she notes that there's a 7-Eleven near the La Mesa Kaiser facility on Parkway Drive. If you want to continue celebrating the day that the convenience store first opened, here's the link to details about the Slurpee Dance:

For crimes in progress, call 911."— July 16, 2013 8:21 p.m.

He was wearing a t-shirt and brown shorts, and was carrying a large black trash bag when he fled the scene. neighborhoods/solana-beach -- Solana Beach
Ken, When I rode the free bus from the Solana station to the fair, the driver said those squares are for bicyclists. Some of us passengers were doubtful, but a male passenger said that cyclists ride in packs and this helped them do that. It still didn't seem to make sense; I'll watch this page to see what others say.— July 10, 2013 4:33 p.m.
