**Downtown Parking:** Last week, I paid 35 cents to park for 20 minutes and take photos of parking meters for a Reader story about how the City of La Mesa spends parking revenue:

In case you're wondering, a parking ticket in La Mesa costs $42.50, according to Chris Gonzales, community development program coordinator. However, the city receives less than half of that amount. The remainder goes to entities including state agencies.

**Weekly La Mesa Police Bulletin:** From Sept. 16 through Sept. 22, police responded to 1352 calls, according to the weekly LMPD bulletin. There were 658 calls to 911, and 368 calls were officer-initiated. Officers made 32 arrests and issued 79 citations. The bulletin also contained a caution about driving while texting or talking on the phone: "One study found that sending or receiving a text takes a driver's eyes away from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, creating a crash risk 23 times worse than not being distracted. It's the equivalent of driving blind at 55 mph for 100 yards." To read more, go to

**Win a prize by answering a question about La Mesa:** OK, the prize is a Holler t-shirt, and you get one just for posting on Holler. However, the shirts are awesome, and even if you're wrong, you get a shirt. 1.Do you know the meaning of the images on La Mesa's city seal? Identity one or more, and then sign up for your t-shirt. 2. Do you know where this image of the seal is displayed? 3. Do you know anything about this piece, such as the artist?
