Romney selling La Jolla home
I can't imagine that he would sell this house unless he was absolutely going to run. Which is crazy. He couldn't score the first two times, with no viable competition. Jeb will easily take the nomination this time, and Hilz will be the nom for the Dems. And may the best woman win.— January 28, 2015 8:40 p.m.
Romney selling La Jolla home
Oh For God's Sake, as I use it only when aggravated enough to take the Lord's name in vain, lol.— January 28, 2015 12:21 p.m.
Romney selling La Jolla home
OFGS, to have to endure all that and then have him drop this horrible project, unfinished. Don't get me wrong, more than glad he's leaving, but should never have bought in the first place. Go away, and don't come back ever, please.— January 28, 2015 7:59 a.m.
Dog towns
Rerouting freeway offramps for a dog park at a cost of millions. Our infrastructure is crumbling, but good old Toad will find the money to accommodate those freakin dog parks. Wonder why he's so partial to them? Oh, and by the way, if you want to be a responsible dog owner, live where there are places for your dog to defecate, like your own house with your own yard. If you can't afford a place of your own, why expect the taxpayer to provide a public restroom for your dog?— January 22, 2015 6:39 p.m.
Not just a bump in the road
I'm not sure what the remedy is here. Not fixing the streets and sidewalks? As an able-bodied person, I too face dangers when the city tears up the streets and sidewalks in order to improve them. The city does what it can to mitigate those dangers, although sometimes they make things worse in the short term. But probably no worse than a walk in a park where I could as easily trip over a tree root or be attacked by a dog. A disabled person could avoid parks, sidewalks and streets same as an able-bodied person, which is probably unreasonable. Able-bodied people choose to run risks for the long term value of having the experience of walking in a park, having nicer sidewalks and better streets. I can't speak for the disabled, however I hope this lawsuit doesn't add on more costs and cause the loss of needed infrastructure. Things are bad enough in this city already.— January 16, 2015 1:48 p.m.
CityBeat runs mea culpa — but buried
He is speaking, I believe, of Ed Decker, a columnist at CityBeat.— January 13, 2015 3:54 p.m.
Appellate court weighs grisly pit bull death scene
Don, don't fall into this trap. It is a stupid argument. It's like the stupid argument gun nuts always make about people confusing assault rifles with other types of weapons -- as if it makes a speck of difference to the people killed. The UK had no problem figuring out what pit bulls were and outlawing them. Just as they had no problem figuring out that guns are lethal and no one should own them. Intelligent people, those Brits. Unlike us.— January 8, 2015 7:23 p.m.
Appellate court weighs grisly pit bull death scene
The guy in charge of Animal Control was extensively quoted in an article in the U-T re dog bites, and it was clear to me he was extremely pro-pitbull, astoundingly so. His remarks were bald-faced lies. Can't remember if I replied on that thread as I was having trouble with my lappy at the time. But it was a truly disgraceful performance.— January 8, 2015 7:15 p.m.
Appellate court weighs grisly pit bull death scene
shirleyberan isn't listening. Typical behavior of a pitbull owner. I suggest that she won't listen until the dog bites her in her amplitude.— January 8, 2015 7:04 p.m.
Appellate court weighs grisly pit bull death scene
Well as for Vick and incarcerating him, that's a tough (but correct) call. People who are raised in a culture where certain things are acceptable, even respectable and encouraged, can't be expected to make the same decisions as those who were raised differently. I say that as I was raised in a culture where bull fighting and cock fighting were the norm, bullfighters admired, portraits, paintings, and calendars of bull fights and cock fights brilliant artistic work. In that culture, animals are animals, basically stock used for a purpose. Dogs for defending homes, attacking strangers, fighting off other dogs, cats for catching mice and rats, rabbits were food, not pets except temporarily for children. I was a grown adult before I understood that bullfighting and cockfighting were not acceptable, even though I still appreciate the art associated with those activities. If you are raised to believe animals are animals, you can change your behavior, as Vick did, but there will always be a difference in the way you view these matters. This is separate and apart from pit bulls. Objectively, I would like to see the breed treated as it is in the UK. But don't think it will happen. Gun nuts and dog nuts are nuts.— January 8, 2015 6:56 p.m.
