Filner did all the right things the wrong way
This is the recall issue I mentioned earlier, why a recall would not be successful, and why the cabal is pushing so hard for a resignation instead, because they know they can't legally force him out. From SDFP: "Today I want to question what ‘everybody knows’. I’m not saying the Mayor should or shouldn’t resign. I’m saying he won’t. "Recall? Ain’t gonna happen, due to a law that’s stayed in the San Diego City Charter for more than a decade after the courts struck down a similar statewide law. Neither political party is willing to put financial or human resources into a recall effort. Oh, and then there’s the pesky provision in the recall law that says another recall can’t take place for six months if one fails…guess what? "There are two recalls out there right now. One is probably a bogus effort. So if one just happens to fail (and it will) and file first, well, it’s just tough luck. Even if both were serious, the probability of one going over the 102,000 signature mark is very slim. "Six months from now the likelihood is that Mayor Bob Filner will still be working out of the 11th floor at city hall." That may be the reason the LGBT has started that recall effort, in order to forestall the other recall? Look, this is all fun and interesting. But the show is mostly smoke and little fire. Our Mayor is a fighter and a shrewd and savvy strategist with good lawyers. I think he can and will survive this concerted attack. I think who ought to be worried are the people who came out and openly called for the Mayor's resignation. His supporters won't have short memories.— July 29, 2013 1:31 p.m.

Don't flatter yourselves. Trump is in the death row category.— July 29, 2013 9:46 a.m.

Is it OK to say Bob is an a-hole but he's OUR a-hole on issues? Let me think about that one. Because Murphy and Sanders may have been swell guys to work for, you know. Results speak for themselves.— July 29, 2013 9:45 a.m.

You must not be reading the same threads I'm reading. Hysteria is a nice term for it. As for the allegations, let's please remember that we were promised legions of women would come forward, and so far we have a total of one. One who has filed an unproven claim, and who hired a celebrity lawyer. We all know that when this is the case, generally the plaintiff is out for fame and money.— July 29, 2013 9:40 a.m.

I've read a few articles suggesting a recall might not be legally valid, anyway. Which would just lead to a long drawn out court battle. And my understanding is Bob's got some good lawyers on his team. So the next step is to try and force him out because of stalemate. Rather well orchestrated so far, but I think the citizens of this city may yet get the final word.— July 29, 2013 9:31 a.m.

I wouldn't be so sure. I think he can survive this the way other pols in the same or worse situation survived, and finish out his term. He would be well advised to remember the advice Jesus gave to his apostles during the tempest: Remain calm. Keep the faith. This storm, too, shall eventually pass.— July 29, 2013 9:21 a.m.

Completely agree in terms of the women. These are not young, naive, unsophisticated girls we're talking about here. These are mature, well-educated, successful, seemingly intelligent women. They failed to report the alleged incidents at the time they occurred -- and let's be clear, most of what they allege seem to be crude jokes and awkward passes -- but suddenly find the "sincerity" and "courage" to come forward with salacious tales of horrific brutality which they scarcely survived. Please! And the men who are now intent on protecting the honor of women -- OMG. These women are setting women back a hundred years,— July 29, 2013 9:17 a.m.

I don't agree that it's the majority opinion, or that if it is, the opinion can't be changed. I think that the voters of San Diego don't like being bullied. I also think that if presented with all the accomplishments achieved in six short months, they would have to agree that Bob Filner is the best mayor we've ever had, certainly the one we need, and that no one currently considered as an alternative would come even close to being as good a mayor.— July 29, 2013 9:06 a.m.

I decided to leave the party the day the Democratic Party voted to ask for Filner's resignation. It is only the latest in a series of disastrous decisions, both national and local.— July 29, 2013 9:01 a.m.

Oh stop with the wilting women routine. This notion is really getting to be ridiculous.— July 29, 2013 8:59 a.m.
