Prison was good for him, says ex-Chargers QB Ryan Leaf
Namath, myth or not, "the game" fixed or not, Namath was smart, or should I say savvy enough to exploit all he could.— May 6, 2016 9:41 a.m.
Prison was good for him, says ex-Chargers QB Ryan Leaf
Well if they did do their homework, they earned an F-.— May 5, 2016 3:54 p.m.
Prison was good for him, says ex-Chargers QB Ryan Leaf
Let's see...in 1998 he signs a four-year contract for $31 million + and of that $11.25 million is a signing bonus which is GUARANTEED. Within four years he bombs out of the NFL. So let's say he's been paid say $15 million over the four years. Not bad for not "working out". Now while in San Diego he hooks up with the Lucia family....you know the buckets of money guy...Don's written about him before. But over time Leaf fails that family too. Then apparently there's a period of wandering most likely, and later proved to be associated with drug abuse. And, like any addict who doesn't want to spend his own money, he expands his life of crime to stealing from others. He get caught repeatedly and finally is sent to prison for seven years in 2012. Sadly, he's out in 2014! I'm just wondering does anyone really think he's changed. He's led a privileged life usually at the expense of others. I suspect he got plenty of money stashed somewhere. Why anyone would give this guy a platform in any medium is beyond reason.— May 5, 2016 10:09 a.m.
The gun problem at Miramar College
As a medically retired SDPD officer who started a second career as a professor at the regional public safety training center at Mirimar College. I'm just wondering isn't Mr. Omens lawfully allowed to carry a firearm? Wouldn't he be covered under federal law 18 USC section 926c as well as state laws covering honorable retired police officers?— May 2, 2016 4:24 p.m.
Chargers' political tab already approaching $900,000
Not surprised about Peters...he's been a hack since his city council days and the pension debacle. Don't know how he keeps on getting elected to positions in gov't.— April 28, 2016 8:05 p.m.
Briggs and Goldsmith go another round
So, Cory, are you saying this is personal, not professional? Jan, say it ain't so! Us taxpayers just want to know.— April 18, 2016 10:10 p.m.
Two teams demand millions for stadium upgrades
And finally twelve years after the completion and opening of San Diego's taxpayer subsidized ballpark, MLB lets it host its ALLSTAR mid season classic. The delay in showing off San Diego's ballpark may have been caused by the revolving AND woeful ownership issues which have plagued the Padres since the days of Ray Kroc. But if the Padres season opener, the WORST lopsided loss in MLB history, is an indicator of what's in store for the 2016 Padre season, the ALLSTAR game will be a minor blessing for all suffering Padre fans.— April 5, 2016 9:14 a.m.
Chargers release so-called financing plan
No wonder San Diego earned the moniker, Enron by the Sea. Let's see we owe millions on the bonds for the 1997 Q's expansion orchestrated by Mayor Golding and Alex Spanos. Now the Spanos family wants San Diegans to be on the hook for hundreds of millions more. If we vote for this new boondoggle we deserve the pott-hole filled streets, the aging water systems, the sewer spills in our neighborhoods and ever reducing city services. We already know non contiguous convention space doesn't work. Heck, the city already owns two convention centers which are losing money each year and have huge backlogs of deferred maintenance. But it's government why not own three, all losing money, all competing against each other.— March 30, 2016 12:28 p.m.
The house that Calexico drug traffickers built
Well The Donald's wall won't impede subterranean incursions. Just wondering if he will add a moat when necessary?— March 24, 2016 11:59 a.m.
Chargers or Comic-Con? SD can't get both (and needs neither)
..."I am not against football. If the Chargers want a new stadium they should finance the entire thing themselves, like other companies, without any taxpayer dollars." Absolutely agree! When will the voters on the upcoming ballot measure(s) educate themselves to the real facts as outlined in this story.— March 18, 2016 9:25 a.m.
