Poway Unified School District in crisis?
Ain't that the truth!— July 16, 2016 8:41 p.m.
Poway Unified School District in crisis?
Painting hard working and dedicated district employees with the same brush used to describe John Collins is biased and unfair. Associating yourself with the Rev. Al Sharpton, may seem like the right thing, but as a documented ***tax cheat, serial liar, scammer and business extortionist*** it doesn't lend a whole lot of credibility to your arguments either. If you have proof of illegal acts by specific employees, other than Mr. Collins, PLEASE bring them forward so we may root them out. If not, one Al Sharpton, spuing forth his vial but vague accusations and inuendo are enough for one nation. Wouldn't you agree? Fraudulent acts like the ones Mr. Collins is accused of are deplorable. If true, he deserves the full and appropriate punishment under the law.— July 14, 2016 11:38 a.m.
Judge admonishes city attorney's office over Filner case
Well ... Yes... that's true, but Goldsmith is termed out, so the voters get another shot at it. For the life of me I don't understand why this position within City government has been so difficult to find competent people to fill it. My guess... The past office holders from Casey Gwinn on have become more political, than legal administrators for the City. Goldsmith has been the worst, but Aguirre, well what can you say. Mike is just Mike. Hopefully this time it will be different, but I'm not holding my breath.— July 10, 2016 10:15 a.m.
Billionaire Democrat's Balboa Park plan revived by GOP mayor
$50 million, that's chump change to a billionaire like Jacobs. If he really wants this as a legacy item for future San Diegans to remember him, then he should just pay for the damn thing himself. That way revenue generated by the project can go to the expense of operating it and, if there are funds left over, they should remain in and be dedicated to, Balboa Park for maintenance and improvements. This way Jacobs actually does philanthropy work for the citizens, creates a true world class pedestrian plaza, AND gets it paid for it in perpetuity. Not only a WIN for today AND tomorrow, but a project that doesn't burden San Diego's "general fund" in the future.— June 30, 2016 3:50 p.m.
San Diego doesn't represent the nation closely
I'm not sure how to take this. What I mean is this good or sad news. Demographically, there is no doubt America is changing; some say it's radical change, others believe it's not too bad and we can assimilate the change. Economically speaking, we, as a country, are a mess and greed is out-of-control, but socialism is a really bad idea...just look at many of our European neighbors. Generationally speaking, baby boomers are now into their "senior" years and beginning to shuffle out the door. Typically the next generation is more progressive than its predecessor one or two. While I believe that's true, it seems to me there is a definite aire of entitlement, and not self sufficiency. So, there is no way California is like Indiana and / or Ohio .... Is that good or bad. I'm just wondering.— June 16, 2016 10:54 a.m.
Money makes the Issa go around
Why use your own money when so many are MORE than willing to give theirs for access and influence. Issa's voice and stance on the stadium issue has been bought, but not entirely paid for yet.— June 12, 2016 7:19 a.m.
Money makes the Issa go around
Issa is the RICHEST member of Congress for the last three years counting (2015 stat), with an estimated wealth of more than $250,000,000.— June 11, 2016 3:41 p.m.
SDG&E undergrounding case goes to court..next year
I hope this litigation gets some traction. A few years ago my neighborhood was set to have its utilities put underground in 2018. I checked the city's website and its interactive under-grounding GIS map today and see my neighborhood has been rescheduled for 2032. 2032, what happened to 2018 and what's going to take 14 more years? My previous home in the 92107 zip code is not scheduled until 2066, which would make me well over 100 years old. The odd thing about all this is the city is and has been in my neighborhood for the last few weeks tearing up the street to replace water and waste-water or sewer lines. Wouldn't it be smarter to tear up the street once, rather than having it resurfaced multiple times???— May 14, 2016 8:59 p.m.
Public Utilities Commission reopens San Onofre case
Has Mr. Aguirre found his niche in life? While the in the past he has been consider a thorn in the sides of many, his role as advocate, maybe even as a tenacious super-advocate for ratepayers, seems to fit him well. Now if the CPUC would play fair in two ways; formally recognize the multiple instances of improper collusion in this matter, and recognize Aguirre's work on behalf of ratepayers has value: he should receive intervenors fees.— May 9, 2016 6:35 p.m.
Prison was good for him, says ex-Chargers QB Ryan Leaf
Sadly, the sheeple of San Diego will probably fall for the fallacy and vote for the ballot measure. If they do they deserve the pot holed filled streets, eliminated or reduced services and ultimately new AND additional taxes. Those taxes will be necessary to backfill the shortfalls in revenue caused by highest hotel tax in the nation. When people decide NOT to vacation in San Diego because of higher taxes and fees just watch the jobs in the tourist industries disappear. But a billionaire and his family will be laughing all the way to the bank, while we the sheeple of San Diego watch millionaires play a game in his multi-billion dollar palace 10 times a year. Meanwhile, in San Diego unemployment rises and the very taxes that pay for many of our services goes lower and lower and that new Convention Center annex, you know the "Con-Vadium" sits idle most of the year sucking the city treasury dry. You see the Spanos and the Chargers don't care about the new unused convention annex, hell they don't even care if it gets finished just as long as the "Vadium" part of this huge "Con" meets their goals. But don't listen to my opinion, read Ray Ellis' op/ed published in the VOSD. Ray is a candidate for the District one Council Seat in the up coming election. He, and Chris Cate, District Five Councilman make some great points about the complete lack of details of the Charger's game plan for a new stadium downtown. http://www.voiceofsandiego.org/topics/opinion/cha…— May 6, 2016 10:09 a.m.
