Dalai Lama causes a stir at UCSD
Coarseness of language, divisive political discourse, our inability to have civil discussions on *anything* are all problems the younger generations must tackle. In this example the Chinese students, guests in our country, fail to consider the student body as a whole, deciding their beliefs take precedence. I'm just wondering *if* their parents really would be this disrespectful as guests in another's home. Even before hearing the message of the Commencement Speaker, these young Chinese students show they are the ones intolerant, and biased. Not a good sign for their future. Let's hope they don't overstay their educational visas. So they may support human rights in their homeland with equal fervor.— February 18, 2017 11:37 a.m.
Ethical lapses blamed on Tourism Marketing District
Vultures and Buzzards picking over the TMD spoils. Ethical lapses? Really? The whole TMD is an illegal tax scheme, voted on by politicians who then find themselves beholden to the lodging industry masters. Sadly, it's the wealthy individuals and corporations who are represenented not the common taxpayer or hotel guest, for that matter. KILL the TMD. There are plenty of folks visiting San Diego. TMD dollars just line the pockets of a few or buy favors from corrupt politicians.— February 14, 2017 12:50 p.m.
Tronc to Union-Tribune: attrit now!
In the not to distant Back to the Future, the L.A. Times - San Diego County Edition will be resurrected. The consolidation will complete the collapse of the once proud Copley Newspaper Syndicate. The Reader and Voice of SD will be the only local news gathering entities. Then who will watch the crooks at City Hall?— February 10, 2017 4:43 p.m.
La Jollans complain about airport noise
The FAA recent hearings on departure routes from Lindbergh Field are allegedly driven by 'efficiency' motivations. What's really driving this is airline profit, not efficiency and certainly not safety for those near departure routes and waypoints. The FAA says nothing changed, but as a Point Loma resident I can tell you more planes are turning south much earlier and flying over more populated areas, rather than flying out over the Mission Bay channel to the Pacific Ocean. The same deviation is more than likely happening on northerly departures too. As San Diego found out on that fateful September 25, 1978, morning, descent vectors into San Diego are dangerous. Accent vectors, and waypoints for turns are critical too! While it's true the FAA implemented a TCA to separate and control aircraft, a TCA does nothing about mechanical failures or pilot error. The safety of the flying public, AS WELL AS the health & welfare of those on the ground under these paths MUST be considered before the all mighty dollar, or shaving a minute or two off flying time.— February 9, 2017 11:22 p.m.

Mayor privately plied by developer chef’s gourmet grub
Something is beginning to smell bad, and once again, it's coming from City Hall. If this idea of redevelopment of the 'Q' is such a good deal then all meeting should be held in public and completely transparent.— February 3, 2017 7:16 p.m.
NFL’s nastiest word
NEWSFLASH: Seems that's true in the Los Angeles area too, Dean. It's taking a multi billionaire who isn't a cheapskate like you to build his own football palace. Yeah, it's true Angelenos are kicking in few bucks on infrastructure improvements, but Stan is paying for his own stadium. He is a class act, you'll be his tenant and San Diego dodged a bullet.— January 26, 2017 8:33 a.m.
Mayor's staff chief getting campaign cash
As a verb - ' pəts,ˌpo͝ots ' to engage in inconsequential or unproductive activity at taxpayer expense. Example: To act on behalf of a do nothing Mayor who protects his own self interests rather than working on behalf of the people.— January 25, 2017 7:51 a.m.
NFL supposedly upset with Chargers' move
Press whiners! But when you compare the press box at the Q versus press boxes in other stadia used for NFL games their complaint resonates. The press box at the Q is, or should I say was, the slums of the NFL. Who, in their right mind, would tolerate such harsh working conditions.— January 21, 2017 11:27 p.m.
NFL supposedly upset with Chargers' move
Seems like the owners and league executives have been participating in on-field plays without our knowledge AND not following their own concussion clearance rules. It's been brutal the last 20 years in San Diego since Alex Spanos blackmailed us into the stadium expansion. I'm just wondering if the latest self inflicted wounds leads to a severe infection? Rather than expansion, are there NFL bylaws covering contraction? Could we be witnessing the high definition super-slo motion demise of a team? I suspect Vegas odds makers would book money on it. But alas, there are just too many NFL fanatics in large metropolitan areas, sans a NFL franchise, willing to subsidize billionaire owners and multimillionaire players. Pssssst, hey buddy, you don't think Mayor Kev, and Supe Ron, would fall for it....again, do ya?— January 21, 2017 4:04 p.m.
