Gas-tax repeal campaign prompts motorists to drive
Well I suppose that’s up to the voters. They, the voters, are the ones who choose to elect representatives who in turn, write laws and enact policies, which have led to a statewide high tax environment. Sadly our State, once a national leader in more categories than I care to type, is dying under democratic leadership that espouses more and more socialist philosophy and ideas. Gone are the days of self reliance, independence and leadership. They’ve been replaced by idea of “dependence is good” and hand outs are expected or deserved. Until the voters tire of having their pockets picked clean for any and every hairbrained idea or give-a-way we’re screwed. Our one and only method of taxpayer resistance, other than fleeing the state, is the Citizen’s Initiative. And it’s a complicated and expensive process requiring knowledge and perseverance to overcome the biases of the Sacramento knows what’s good for you. While I personally would prefer to see someone other than DeMaio leading the charge, because he is, in my opinion, an opportunist and carpetbagger, he also has the knowledge, experience and megaphone necessary to successfully get this tax repeal onto the ballot. Then it’s up to the voters to not fall the slick and sure-to-be confusing ads. For partisans will cough up hundreds of thousands dollars to hold onto power. Hopefully the voters will follow through and rescind this regressive and debilitating tax.— February 10, 2018 8:58 a.m.

Guess your saying Jerry has “dirt bag buddies” isn’t personal. You need to thicken up the skin a little.— February 9, 2018 2:12 p.m.

I guess those employees and their supervisors just figured if the city pays for taking educational classes they should pay me to sit at my desk and do my homework. While the city regulate which classes it’s willing to pay for, as a reminder maybe the city should send a copy of its Administrative Regulation 70.30 to any employee and their supervisor with every education reimbursement approval form.— February 9, 2018 8:20 a.m.

Pot meet kettle as he launches into a personal attack on Jerry Brown. I too have no love for the Governor so I hope Carl is successful with his repeal initiative. But, you must admit, Carl does seek, and thrive on attention.— February 8, 2018 10:04 p.m.

AMEN to that brother. It seems once promoted to a supervisory position or higher, employees become all but untouchable. I believe the reason is second level supervisors don’t want to be bothered with documenting their subordinates shortcomings. This is ESPECIALLY true if the 2nd level supervisor had a say in their subordinates’ promotion in the first place i.e. it reflects badly on them. Thus they get away with almost anything.— February 8, 2018 10:22 a.m.

SWELL: You are correct the photo in the article is the building for the COUNTY Administration Center. But historically the building was once known as the photo caption in the article indicates. This is from Wikipedia...”The San Diego County Administration Center is a historic Beaux-Arts/Spanish Revival-style building in San Diego, California. It houses the offices of the Government of San Diego County. It was completed in 1938 and was primarily funded by the Works Progress Administration. It was previously known as the San Diego Civic Center and as the City and County Administration Building. Because of its notable architecture and its location fronting San Diego Bay, it is nicknamed the Jewel on the Bay.[1] Architects were Samuel Wood Hamill, William Templeton Johnson, Richard Requa and Louis John Gill. The building used innovative construction techniques to guard against earthquakes, and the project was considered to be "a prototype of American civic center architecture".[1][2] The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 16, 1988.[4]”— February 8, 2018 10:18 a.m.
It's the wrecking ball for Point Loma's Dolphin Motel
I remember when the Dolphin Motel had quite a reputation in “The seventies and eighties”. Rooms rented by the hour, if you get my meaning. But that was a different time, and we had two very active military training bases nearby. Weekends were wild!— January 26, 2018 8:22 p.m.

“This is how a Hepatitis A breakout happens.”
Isn’t this ALWAYS the case with our feckless Mayor and his staff. Rather than addressing the problem and DOING something positive, they choose to do the blame game. Blame the County, blame the State, blame the feds just blame anyone to distract from their total lack of leadership. We just suffered through eight years of leading from behind at the federal level with the result of worldwide chaos and economic malaise. Learn from it, we need real leaders locally ...cause we don’t have them now.— January 24, 2018 6:45 a.m.
