Names of $100,000 City Retiree Club
Still waiting for that nepotism lawsuit, Johnny... By JF =========================================== And your wish is my command (BTW- I did not specifically say nepotism, but certainly meant it); All-female fire crew a rarity in service S.D. one of best agencies in hiring female firefighters By Sarah Kershaw NEW YORK TIMES NEWS SERVICE January 23, 2006 "Women have made greater gains in San Diego than in many other cities, officials said, partly because of a ***1974 consent decree*** that required the Fire-Rescue Department to recruit women and minorities. The 10-year decree was the result of a lawsuit filed by five female firefighters who said they were wrongly fired in the last weeks of their academy training in the early 1970s." http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20060123/… You want me to do SDPD too JF-or have you had enough??? Every major City in this state has been sued at one time or another in the last 40 years for PD and FD nepotism and cronyism-but the FD's especially so. SFFD was the absolute worst. LA FD had NO woman unitl 1983, when they were sued.— February 21, 2009 12:32 p.m.
SDCERS Lowers DROP Interest Rate to 3.54 Percent, Says DeMaio
All need need to cure this scam is to put all new hires into Social Security. No more DROP. No more PoSC, no more under the table hanky panky.— February 21, 2009 12:20 p.m.
SDCERS Lowers DROP Interest Rate to 3.54 Percent, Says DeMaio
Well, from a financial standpoint, the city no longer has to pay a percentage of your salary into the retirement system. This is a huge savings to the city. ================================= It's not a huge savings, and even if it were it is still morally corrupt. And entering DROP does NOT lower your retirement 15%, where did you pull that BS out of. You are paid a DB based on two factors-years of service and a multiplier for those years and there is no 15% reduction or discount. If you do the max number of years then you are at the top and that is not reduced. The notion that the 90% max rate is "rare" is a joke. Everyone hits the 90%, after all it is only 30 years to reach it.— February 20, 2009 10:39 p.m.
Brandes Investment Partners Still Underperforming Sharply, Losing Clients
^^^ Virtually the entire nation is in a similar if not identical situation^^^^^ I have to say that it-but there are some people in far worse shape. I felt very sick when I saw a story today of a guy who was 70 years old and had his retirement invested with Madoff-$700K- and it is all gone. he was working at Wal Mart. That burns me up like you would not believe. Madoff is under "house arrest", and IMO he should be sitting in a jail cell, solitary confinement. For the life of me I cannot figure out why the guy is allowed house arrest with $50 billion in losses.— February 20, 2009 10:33 p.m.
Juries and Court Cases
Their lawsuit is totally ridiculous. based on their thinking I should be able to sue the city any time I've been called names while walking down the street in my own neighborhood or waste the courts time and money suing an employer whenever a customer or coworker has made an unfavorable comment toward me. ============================================ Well, this may surprise you, but what you find "ridiculous" is the law in CA. One, yes-just one, sexual comment in the work place is enough for liability to attach. So if women can apply such a standard in a sexual harrassment lawsuit-then why should FF's be any different?????? BTW-Im not taking the FF's side, I have no opinion on the case because I don't know the facts, but want to point out to you because of your comment that what you think is "ridiculous" is in fact the law in this state in which thousands of lawsuits have been filed under those exact same circumstances.— February 20, 2009 7:15 p.m.
San Diego City Employees pension fund ailing
You have an uphill battle convincing San Diegans that the municipal unions don't have a lot of power. ================================ Yes, that bogus claim is floated on a regular basis-that the public unions have no power. Poor little unionjs. I guess thta is why the teachers union and the SEIU raised their union dues by $720 per year to fight Arnold's 4 ballot initatives in 2005. Because those millions $$ were useless because "the unions have no power". Hmmm...I wonder why these public unions are the BIGGEST campaign contributors to elective offices???? Hmmmm...what sense does it make to donate millions, and even billions, if the unions don't get anything out of it....hmmmm...maybe JW can explain that one. I know most people think that throwing away millions of dollars is a smart move, especially when it provides no return.......errrrr....yeah that's the ticket... (yeah- right JW). BTW JW-the union board does have power to reject scams like MP-I and MP-II, and the board does have a fiduciary duty to protect the system from fraud. So stop blowing smoke up everyones rear with your bogus claims that I was wrong on this issue. You're wrong, I'm right.— February 20, 2009 4:44 p.m.
SDCERS Lowers DROP Interest Rate to 3.54 Percent, Says DeMaio
I suppose this is merely a matter of semantics, but to be as accurate as possible, when an employee enters the DROP program he or she is technically retired from the City. ========================= If you're on the payroll you're not retired. You can call it whatever you want, but if it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's a duck. Or in this case a double dip scam.— February 20, 2009 4:35 p.m.
