Who Tipped Over the Cats?
I grew up in East LA and when the white cops stopped us we were always a group of 'Messicans' to them (even though we were all Chicanos). Good story.— April 4, 2012 8:25 a.m.
Infanticides Discovered in Tijuana
Hey Javajoe25, That was a well written reply. I live in eastern Tijuana very close to a big statue of the animal next to your moniker. I agree with you. Mexico and the US are being destroyed by greedy people on both sides of the Wall of Shame. As for fifteen years of media bashing of Tijuana and Mexico. It's been a lot longer than that.— April 4, 2012 8:11 a.m.
A walk on the boulevard beyond the race track
Hi Daniel Two weeks ago I asked my boss where I work in Pacific Beach if my days could be cut from five a week to four. That way I can spend more time in my palatial wooden shack in eastern TJ. An economic hardship outweighed by the pleasure of moments spent here. All that aside this town has some damn good writers, congratulations.— March 28, 2012 12:51 p.m.
Chula Vista Murder Suspects Arrested in Tijuana
On a lighter note some really cool people are building a statue of a 'hand flashing the peace sign.' Hopefully It'll be installed later this year in Las Playas. My family and I plan on being there for the dedication. Hey RG, If the Boomerang bar is still there I'd be honored to buy you a sodee pop.— March 28, 2012 12:33 p.m.
Journalists Active in Tijuana Despite Threats
Being protected by the feds isn't necessarily better than being protected by the municipal or state police. It depends on where you are and who you're writing about. The reporters here (in TJ where I live) do a great job against daunting odds. Unfortunately, for every story told a dozen remain hidden.— March 19, 2012 9:39 a.m.
Ted, Please Beat Your Wife More Quietly
Hi RG, I would like to thank you for telling people what life here in Tijuana is really like. Both good and bad. My family and I once had a Ted situation next door to us. So I know what is in your heart during those moments. Keep up the great work RG.— December 26, 2011 6:30 a.m.
Occupy San Diego Camps Raided
I just came from the plaza. I've been there almost daily and was working on an article about a certain occupy member named James 'Elvis' Kurt. I asked an officer there what time the cops moved in and he said about 2am. Then I asked him if any of the major stations were set up. He said no. That they came later. When I asked him if they'd been notified prior to the assault. He smiled and said yes. Then I tried to take some pictures of the tragic looking pile of debris, the tents, signs, a broken guitar but I was angrily sent away. I'm posting this from an internet on fourth. And now I'm headed back to the plaza.— October 28, 2011 8:37 a.m.
Curse Of The Gypsies
Hi RG I just got off work at the French and I'm reading your article here in my supervisor's office. It's good RG. It's real good. Take care.— September 10, 2011 10:23 p.m.
Where Hummingbirds Land
re 8 I'm glad I could sweeten your day. I graduated from ELAC(Go Huskies) with an AA degree in Liberal Arts. Or as I like to say it, LIBERAL ARTS! Today, the word liberal is something that even liberals avoid. Preferring the more middle of the road, progressive. I'm a liberal. Proud and pure.— September 8, 2011 12:24 p.m.
Where Hummingbirds Land
re 7 I lived between Dulzura and Potrero for approximately ten years(1993-2003). The statistics you sight are police statistics that are very misleading. This is because the majority of the violence in the back country takes place against undocumented immigrants who rarely notify authorities. For many years I hiked the trails of the back country taking food and water to those who needed it but more importantly documenting their horrifying stories of abuse. My second novel "The Chicanas of Aztlan" is a fictionalized account of some of the things I learned. As for more recent, nonfiction accounts of these crimes try reading my article called "Smugglersville." Thank you for caring enough to comment.— September 8, 2011 12:14 p.m.
