Stuart Caldwell opened soul-food restaurant in Tijuana
A positively enjoyable article about the town I live in and love dearly. More than one expatriate has come to Tijuana and found the "American Dream." I am one. Good luck with your business young man.— April 7, 2016 6:37 p.m.
Erudite readers write in
This is for Mr Gary in Carlsbad. Don't shoot the messenger on this one buddy but maybe, just maybe, the north county of San Diego is a dull colorless place, full of dull colorless people, serving dull colorless food. However, you have your right to complain, as Ed and Mathew have their right to go where they please. "Coffee's Ready, Gotta Go!!!"— March 10, 2016 6:25 p.m.

Santee vs Tijuana. I'll take news about TJ over "Klan-Tee" any day of the week.— February 20, 2016 5:08 a.m.
Whatever you do, stay south of Calle Primera
Nice article Sr Suarez. When I first moved to Tijuana over twelve years ago the first thing I realized was that it was difficult to find a good burger around here. Times have changed for the better. Now if we can just find a decent fried chicken joint my tummy would be tickled silly. As for Ms Park, I'm sorry she has such a negative opinion of this city which I've come to love.— February 13, 2016 12:09 p.m.
Border crossing rules have changed at San Ysidro
Good story RG, I am very familiar with the situation and have my opinion but I'll keep it to myself. One humorous note, when you enter Mexico now by foot you immediately see two signs. One says Mexicans and the other says foreigners. It's funny to see how many African Americans and Anglo Americans try to slip into the Mexican line. The other day two old Mexican ladies were ahead of me and as we both watched the people in the Mexicans Only line one lady turned to the other and said, "Oh sure, NOW everybody wants to be a Mexican!"— October 8, 2015 6:48 p.m.
Suit alleges brutish Border Patrol behavior at sea
They are human beings. Just like you and I.— August 22, 2015 5 a.m.
ISIS fighters caught at Mexico-U.S. border? Really?
ISIS doesn't have to send fighters. All they have to do is arm the thousands of pissed off raza who've been screwed a million times over by an inept and rapacious US government.— October 9, 2014 11:11 a.m.
How to get into U.S. via the Arroyo Alamar
Hey RG. How's my fellow Tijuanense doing these days. Fine I hope. Just east of the area I spoke of is a large housing development. It butts up against Rancho Ontiveros, which is just before the 'Y' that heads left to the bighorn statue and Tecate toll booth, or right to the Blvd 2000. I've always thought this was a horribly dangerous place to build a bunch of new housing. How did that project ever get developed?— September 27, 2014 5:13 a.m.
How to get into U.S. via the Arroyo Alamar
Good story. Several years ago, where Teran Teran Street crosses the river, the calafia (little bus) that I was riding broke down. I jumped off to have a smoke and strolled down to the jumble of rickety housing that clung to the side of the river. It was just a little patch of shanties. It was all that was left of the sprawling colony that once survived their. The area was surrounded by existing maquiladoras and others being built. It was very obvious that in just a matter of time these shacks would also be leveled. The wall of one shanty was made of wooden pallets. A small child peered at me from between the slats. For some goofy reason I got real sad. Maybe its because I grew up in the same house for the first thirty years of my life and I understand the stability that comes with it. I wonder about that child sometimes. Stupid me.— September 26, 2014 5:27 a.m.
Tijuana gets help from federal cops
I am an American who lives in one of the roughest barrios in eastern Tijuana. Been here for almost ten years now. The turf war presently occurring in TJ is taking place between small street gangs who pledge their allegiance to whatever cartel supplies them. This is a direct result of the weakening of the OG cartels around here. I lived through a very similar situation while growing up in East LA. As a street gang member we fought for control of various plazas until the Mexican Mafia intervened and squashed the violence because it was bad for business. The same thing will happen here. The one major difference is civilian casualties. It is much rarer in Tijuana for an innocent to be caught in gang crossfire than in East LA back in the day. That is because local residents here won't tolerate it. PS: I'm building a tiny café in this land you mock and ridicule. Despite your ethnocentric gibberish you are cordially invited to my grand opening. Peace on Earth.— September 11, 2014 5:18 a.m.
