7500 Africans and Haitians without money or housing in Tijuana
If you look at history you'll see that all empires come and go. Rome could not stop the 'barbarians at their gates (Germanic tribes)," and the US will not be able to prevent what is coming from happening. A few angry words in cyberspace will not keep the 'Anglo experiment' in the new world (Manifest Destiny anyone?) from experiencing the same fate as other aggressive cultures. You reap what you sow and karma es una perra.— October 9, 2016 5:20 a.m.
Y’all are rude
Stand on the corner of the 5th and Broadway trolley stop downtown during lunch time (12-1pm). You'll be surrounded by a multitude of suits and feel completely alone. Every time they put up another condo-scraper downtown, they block out a little more natural light and make the drain of San Diego County a little colder. After ten years in San Diego and almost a dozen now in Tijuana, I'll take Tijuas anytime. Great article.— September 30, 2016 11:20 p.m.
Civic San Diego and city council are so wrong about cars and bikes
It would have been nice if there had been some opinions from bus/trolley riders. Seems like we got insulted but not represented. I've been commuting this way for years and I'm not alone. I'm usually surrounded by students, blue collar workers and tourists(especially on the green line). The new trolleys can load a lot more wheel chairs, bikes and strollers than the old models(which have way more comfortable seats), so even if the passenger count isn't high it can still get crowded. As for the 12 people average on a 40 passenger bus, that bean counting, desk jockey, the author keeps quoting from obviously never rode a bus or trolley during rush hour. Terrible article, almost as bad as the pit bull piece from awhile back.— August 28, 2016 10:12 p.m.
San Diego lawyers in trouble
When I think of lawyers an old saying and a joke immediately come to mind. "Lawyers are to justice as prostitutes are to love." and "What do you call a hundred lawyers on the bottom of the ocean. A good start."— August 7, 2016 11:32 p.m.
Burger war in National City
As someone who works in the restaurant industry (janitor) the allegations set out in the article are easily believable. For instance, the Health Department. A waiter once told me of a health inspector who had all his house parties catered by a restaurant he regularly inspected. Clash of interests? Not in Dago. Business as usual. As for breaks, lunches and unhealthy and unsafe working conditions those will vary from joint to joint. But let me say this. It doesn't matter if you are in La Jolla or Barrio Logan, you're probably going to be served by the same type of person. A newly arrived, usually poorly educated immigrant, who often has no clue they are being taken advantage of.— July 30, 2016 10:08 a.m.
San Diego’s convadium is a bald-faced lie
As someone who commutes on the blue line to and from work. The question that I have is this, "What kind of impact will the stadium construction have on my already tedious commute. If I'm not mistaken doesn't the blue line pass thru part of the yard that is going to be demolished? As anyone who regularly uses the trolley system knows, whenever they have to shuffle people around due to construction or whatnot, the riders usually wind up being terribly inconvenienced.— July 2, 2016 9:51 a.m.
Wanted: sex with infants in Mexico
I've been following this story since it first broke. This is not the only case involving Americans who come down here and commit these atrocities. You regularly read such articles in the local newspapers. The good thing is that this creep got caught before he could cause too much harm. Obviously, this is what the Trumpenstein Monster is talking about when he babbles about rapists crossing boarders, Right?— July 2, 2016 9:44 a.m.
Signature-gatherer falsely claims petition will save Comic-Con
I was at the Bernie Sanders rally in Vista last Sunday. Signature gatherers were in abundance as the long line of people waited to be searched by TSA and secret service agents. One fellow approached me and I told him I would sign the petition if it was the Briggs one but not the Charger one. He said it was the Charger one and then lowered his voice to say, "Hey buddy, Just between me and you I've seen polling on this thing and it's gonna go down in flames. It wont matter." I still declined to sign. Then he looked at me and said, "My family really needs the twelve dollars your signature will bring in." I should have signed it 'Sucker for a sad story' but instead I just signed my name.— June 4, 2016 5:27 a.m.
San Diego, diversity city
That diversity also 'lowers the bar' when it comes to how employers treat employees. Some cultures are much more tolerant of nepotism and misogyny in the work place than others. Some cultures, upon immigrating to the US, rather than adopting US ideas and work ethics implement those they are most familiar with. Much to the detriment of the American workers who often throw their hands up in frustration and bail. In my opinion, this behavior has helped to create the Trumpenstein monster. Have a good day Mr Bauder. I thoroughly enjoy your articles.— May 14, 2016 10:22 a.m.
Ghost buildings haunt Tijuana
For me 'La Concha' was the building on my left every time I entered Mexico through the old entrance. I feel that it should have been rehabbed, unfortunately its location doomed its fate. Ditto for the Mexicoach building. Could of, should of, been preserved. I loathe animal cruelty and must admit I was not sorry to see the bullring demolished. As for the statement made by Tijuanense, I agree, the old Tijuana vibe is gone but there is a new vibe growing, one that is something wonderful to behold. Good story Mr Suarez— April 16, 2016 5:20 a.m.
