Week in review: Sweetwater Union High School District
I respectfully disagree! Education is not a business. Educating our children is not a business. and running a school district is not a business. Period!!!!!! We are not in the business of producing widgets! We are not in the business of producing a product! We educate our public's children. Education is not a business, it's a process. It is because so many people WANT to treat it like a business, that the public losses focus on what is important. In order for each child to be educated in the most beneficial way, you can not run this system as if all children are a product. Enough with education is a business and needs to be run as such. PERIOD!— July 1, 2013 11:09 p.m.

Please! No more politicians running Sweetwater.— June 30, 2013 12:03 p.m.
Week in review: Sweetwater Union High School District
There are many, well qualified, and honest people who are part of the Sweetwater family. I for one do not want someone with no educational background running this school district. As good as their intentions might be, their lack of educational experience would be a hinder.— June 30, 2013 11:59 a.m.
Sweetwater runs afoul of state Public Records Act
There can only be one reason for the constant delay in getting information out of SUHSD. There is most definitely some things they are hiding. As the old saw says, "If you have nothing to hide, why don't you show us..." Too bad that the board goes along with the charade by giving Brand the lead in all this. Here would be a great way to earn back the trust of the public. Just start keeping an open book.— June 25, 2013 11:55 a.m.
Sweetwater runs afoul of state Public Records Act
People have to follow the prescribed protocol of remedy for the Brown Act violations. The DA's office is at the end of the procedure. Even then, there isn't a real punishment for it. More of a "see that you don't do that again" solution.— June 25, 2013 10:58 a.m.
Sweetwater runs afoul of state Public Records Act
"No doubt Cartmill, Ricasa, and Quinones's attorneys have advised them not to step down out of fear that it would make them appear guilty of the criminal charges that have been filed against them. Mccann on the other hand was looking to use Sweetwater as a spring board for higher office, alas he personally torpedoed that goal." Why use the "alas?" I say Hallelujah!— June 25, 2013 10:53 a.m.

"We have many legitimate important educational issues that need addressing. Hopefully Mccann has learned a good lesson and will begin to serve the taxpayers and the students of our district." anniej... come on girl, you KNOW that isn't gonna happen.— June 20, 2013 9:51 a.m.
Sweetwater trustee reports stolen property to police
Anyway, here's the info from the CalBOC's webpage: Mission Statement To promote school district accountability by improving the training and resources available to California's Prop 39 school bond oversight committees, educating the state legislature, local school boards, and the public about the oversight and reporting power these Citizens' Bond Oversight Committees (CBOCs) have, and to advocate on a state level, where appropriate, on issues of common concern to all CBOCs. Statement of Purpose 1. To provide the general public with informational and educational materials and activities on local School Bond Oversight Committees that will help increase public awareness of the valuable role the CBOCs play in the Prop 39 school bond process, and 2. To promote comprehensive training and orientation of all new CBOC members throughout the state, and 3. To promote adequate funding, staffing and other support as typically required by CBOCs to be provided in all districts throughout the state with Prop 39 Bonds pursuant to fulfilling their lawful duties, and 4. To promote the preservation of all CBOC reports throughout the state in both the county of origin education office and a centralized state ar-chive repository accessible to the public, and 5. To advocate public distribution of all CBOC reports, and 6. To maintain a website to provide current information concerning issues, events and activities of CBOCs, and 7. To sponsor a statewide conference of CBOC Members and interest parties, and 8. To work toward the preservation and enhancement of the CBOC system by sponsoring needed legislation, and 9. To undertake any other efforts consistent with the foregoing that will increase the public knowledge of the CBOC system and the contribution it makes and continues to make to California taxpayers and toward good government.— June 19, 2013 4:58 p.m.
Sweetwater trustee reports stolen property to police
"McCann’s legal maneuvering cost the district over $6000 in attorney fees." The district picked up the tab for John MuckCann's failed attempt to silence the public, but when it came time to ratify payment for a representative of Sweetwater's Bond Oversight Committee (BOC) to attend the Second Annual CaLBOC Statewide Conference Friday May 10, 2013 • Sacramento, he claimed he has never asked Sweetwater to pay for his travel, so he saw no reason to have SUHSD spend over $500.00 to cover the man's expenses. Of course, this happened just after MuckCann voted to authorize multi-millions of dollars of taxpayer monies to projects that are of dubious merit. This also followed MuckCann's call to the CVPD and had them send out about four police officers in three vehicles in order for MuckCann to retrieve a 25 cent sign. After reading the the mission statement and statement of purpose for the CalBOC, it looks like a very worthwhile organization. The stated purpose is to be sure the public is informed, involved and protected in the bond process. State law requires the LEA (school district) to provide the resources to the local BOC to be able to effectively do it's job. For Sweetwater to withhold payment for this man's travels to attend a conference, that's sole purpose was to do exactly that, is unconscionable. And, to think this item followed an agenda item where MuckCann voted to approve the district's spending of over $70,000 for the board members to continue their memberships in every professional organization under the sun, in order to "more effectively do our job." Such hypocrisy! Oh, wait... it's just MuckCann's way of doing business.— June 19, 2013 4:57 p.m.
