Busy week at Sweetwater school district
(Marc Litchman, the CEO of the trust, said) “In conjunction with local, state, and national soccer organizations, the nonprofit California Trust for Public Schools is developing a proposal to build a state-of-the-art soccer training and development academy with conference facilities and a charter school on surplus property owned by the Sweetwater Union High School District in Chula Vista.” As I understand it, Marc Litchman is the sole person behind California Trust for Public Schools. That's all. There are no other people. It is also my understanding that California Trust for Public Schools was created solely for the purpose of holding the title to the L St. property, AS A NON-PROFIT, so SUHSD would be able to sell the property for profit without having some other public entity make a claim for the land if it was ever declared surplus by SUHSD. Marc was just another lynchpin in another of Ed Brand's "boondoggles." Now Marc wants a meet and greet with the candidates to sell them on his "soccor bowl." As I see it, Marc is part of the problem, not part of the solution.— September 6, 2014 5:20 p.m.
Sweetwater cash cow improperly milked
In 2009, Los Angeles Unified School District passed a resolution “which opposes the location of cell phone towers in close proximity to schools.” Meanwhile, the district’s chief financial officer says Sweetwater has “nine more cell sites in the works.” Sweetwater will do anything for the bucks, including exposing your children to unproven radiation. Remember, back in the day, when shoe retailers put all those X-ray machines in the stores so you could "see" your foot inside your new pair of shoes, and just how well they fit. All the while exposing you to what we know today was an extreme amount of radiation... needlessly. What do you call a someone or a company that will do anything for the buck?— September 3, 2014 10:17 p.m.

Alas, all I can get out of most of the candidates is the old tired saw... "what's best for the kids... we need to work together... go to my web page..." Reminds me of the stuff one sees every night during the six week run up to the national elections "Under my plan,..." then give no real specifics.— September 3, 2014 10:07 p.m.

"boondoggle" I love that word. That one word covers so many things Sweetwater. Here's another item to ponder a bit: "Fund 40, heretofore, has consisted of money set aside from an old Caltrans settlement, old redevelopment money, and rent revenue from the L Street property." By rent, does the SUHSD also use the "rents" being charged to all the various District Programs being housed in the multitude of offices on the L Street property? If they are, then General Fund monies are being directed to those programs, then being recouped as "rent" money that is then channeled in Fund 40?— September 3, 2014 9:40 p.m.
Sweetwater district’s mellow ruse
Seriously folks... time to start thinking of a new school district. One comprised of the CFD areas. Time to keep our money where it belongs. We can no longer rely on Sweetwater to do right by us "Eastsiders."— August 13, 2014 11:22 p.m.
33% of the profit? No problem — hey!

Sweetwater land deals — the beef goes on
"I believe that everything should be in a holding pattern until the new board takes office. There is no need to move forward with anything long-term, controversial, or that is not a complete necessity for students." Quoted for truth.— July 23, 2014 10:25 p.m.
Sweetwater land deals — the beef goes on
By December, all those carpet baggers from the County Office will have returned to their comfy positions at the Ed Center. They do not care a hoot about the south bay.— July 23, 2014 10:22 p.m.
Sweetwater land deals — the beef goes on
"Tom Calhoun, Sweetwater’s executive facilities director, said the district is trying to maximize profit in order to retire the debt on the L Street property, which is upside down in its mortgage." Here Tom, let me fix it for you... "the district is more than willing to screw the public and the local community, so we can make a buck." By my way of thinking, once this piece of crap is completed, Sweetwater will have beat a hasty retreat out to the east side and "to hell with the problems" they have created back on Fifth Avenue.— July 23, 2014 10:20 p.m.
The piper must be paid
Anniej... While I applaud the events currently playing out in court, I must agree with eastlaker in asking "where is the money going to come from?" Because of the callous spending habits of the board over the past several years, un-necessary borrowing from mello-roos funds has happened willy-nilly to make ends meet. Just how does the school district plan to make good on these loans. My guess is they will default on them and we, the mello-roos tax payers will be holding the short end of the stick. Time for the "east side" to form it's own district. A district that is accountable for how mello-roos moneys are spent.— June 21, 2014 8:54 p.m.
